I always supported Tarvaris until the very end in Minnesota. People who have been around this board for as long as I have been here know that for a fact.

Tarvaris may simply be our best option. The QB market isn't good at all. That is why I was disappointed we traded Mat Cassel. Water under the bridge.

Honestly, as much as I called out and begged for TJacks release for a couple years, right now I actually wouldn't be upset at all bringing him back in as a Backup.

With Seattle it seems he has actually learned a bit as apposed to being stuck under the Childless trainwreck, and as a result has turned into a very solid Backup if not maybe one of the most solid backups in the league. Apparently has become great and very popular in the locker room, can and will play through pain. It already looks like Seattle fans and players both are bummed about losing him. I dunno, different systems can all the difference in the world sometimes. and he is already very serviceable and can be counted to win 2games if need be.

Aside from Hoyer, I don't really see a better Option.

As far as the rest of the FA's there are a couple out there that fit Spielmans pattern, 9 times out of 10 with FA's it seems he looks for a few particulars. Generally under 30yrs old, and also coming out of their first contract. Are the 2 biggest. Mauluga fit and I thought we'd grab him in a heartbeat and I wouldn't have been bummed, But Cinci seems to have been smart there.

The draft I just don't know, I can't wrap my head around it this year. Ha. All I Do know is I really really hope we don't pick Parker.

Everyone seems to be all googoo about this pick due to the fact he and Teddy played well together in college. However, the NFL is VASTLY different, different systems different coaching different expectations. Who's to say those two will still have the same chemistry in a completely different scheme and world. Maybe they Do, But if they don't, think how bad that could affect thm, it could just devastate not only confidence But mental aspect, the whole shebang, (I dunno, maybe I just come from the world of "don't go and work where your good friends work)

They MAY WORK OUT, But if not it's gonna hit worse than it normally would,

Plus people seem to keep avoiding the fact that Yeah Parker's # and play IS pretty impressive and hes got some pretty great hands however the FACT remains that his play consistantly falls significantly when facing any above average cornerbacks.

There. That's what I've got to say after not posting for a couple seasons. LOL
"He kept getting pies in the face and everyone thought it was so funny.I didn't think it was so funny. They should have eaten the pies instead of throwing them at each other If they were mad,why didn't they just knock the crap out of each other?"

Here's a link to a good primer on the Vikes needs in free agency, written by Mark Craig:

http://blog.startribune.com/sports/acce ... -to-happen

I
I. WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN
1, Sign a No. 2 quarterback: Former Giants and Browns General Manager Ernie Accorsi used to always say, “The backup quarterback is the second most important player on your team.” He had the scar tissue to prove it.

In 1988, Accorsi’s Browns had to start four different quarterbacks to get through a 10-6 playoff season. It got so bad that Ernie had to talk former Dolphins backup Don Strock off the beach and out of retirement to come and start two games at the end of the season. The sight of the deeply-tanned Strock starting a playoff loss in the snow at Cleveland Stadium probably stuck with Accorsi until his retirement years later.

The Vikings saved $4.75 million and picked up some draft capital by trading Cassel to the Bills. They also gave up a ton of comfort that needs to be recaptured pronto. Someone already schooled in Turner’s system – like Cleveland’s Brian Hoyer – would be preferable, but not mandatory considering Turner’s ability to coach.

Those who don’t think this is Priority No. 1 should remember that Teddy Bridgewater was injured while making his NFL starting debut. It was a great rookie debut that he won. But he also missed the next game, a Thursday nighter four days later, because of injury. Christian Ponder sealed his future – or lack thereof – with the Vikings with a woeful performance in that loss at Green Bay.

The Vikings have had to use three starting QBs in each of the past two seasons. So only a fool would bank on Bridgewater or almost any other quarterback starting all 16 games.
There's a lot more at the link.

Thanks for posting Jim. I am assuming Cassel will be the starter in Buffalo.
I wouldn't mind seeing Hoyer, but I wonder if he will be looking for a starting job himself... he was very effective in Cleveland and it makes no sense to me why they let him go. I hope they can get a decent backup who has had some success (even Tavarius Jackson would be ok with me as long as he isn't anointed the full time starter).

I haven't paid close attention but I read something the other day that suggested he would be competing with Manuel for the starting position but wasn't necessarily the de facto starter.

Hoyer's familiarity with Norv's offense might make him a logical choice. I'd rather see them go with a younger option like Locker or McCoy than sign Jackson.

Why would anyone want Tjoke back? Guy got traded to Bills, and even they didn't want him. Last time he got any real time he was so average the team traded him, drafted a guy, signed a guy...and only brought him back to save money. Last year we had to listen to how Ponder is a good backup and a top 3rd stringer, the minute he got in a game, what happened? :wallbang: :wallbang: :wallbang:

He's not even young! You can get players who bring just as much to the game, for less, who are younger! Sign a guy who can backup Teddy for years. Who can stick through an OC or two and a new offense if necessary.

TJoke, Ponder....man do sports fans have short memories!

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Vikings are targeting free agent QB Shaun Hill.
Hill would replace Matt Cassel as Teddy Bridgewater's backup. He played under OC Norv Turner with the 49ers in 2006 and would give the Vikings a veteran sounding board for Bridgewater. Free agent Tarvaris Jackson has also expressed interest in returning to Minnesota.
I wouldnt mind Hill at all

Hill in a second over TJoke. If we're going the veteran route.

Tarvaris Jackson...creating a story with some silly comments.

Oh no doubt. I really don't think Jackson was ever a candidate. It's just that he said he would like to back up Teddy. I would take Hill for sure

If I had anything to say about it, I would take Hoyer over anyone mentioned so far. :)

The Vikings have expressed interest in free agent DE George Selvie.
The Vikings are in the market for a situational pass rusher with Tom Johnson a free agent. 28-year-old Selvie has 10 sacks over the last two seasons and shouldn't require much guaranteed money. The Cowboys have also shown interest in re-signing Selvie.

Good. Selvie is a good rotational player and would give the team more depth.

Hopefully he wouldn't have to attempt a pass with the team again - just like last time he was here.
