Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
Not a bad trade. Save money and move up in the draft. Good stuff.
Shaun Hill wouldn't be a bad replacement. He knows his role and will do his best to be a good teammate and help Teddy. Other names being thrown around are guys who probably still want to start or they don't have the experience for Teddy to bounce ideas off of. He often talked about how much Cassel helped him last season by just giving him some advice, going over film, etc. I think Hill can do that for him. Hoyer, McCoy, Campbell, etc probably can't/won't.

Seems Eagles might be interested in Locker.

I wouldn't have problem with Hoyer. I think Turner would make him better. But he probably wouldn't be cheap.
I think that it would best to have a backup QB with experience .

Cassel wasn't flashy but had the offense done....

We just traded away a backup 32 year old that was owed $4 million and moved up 45 PICKS in the draft and gained a 2016 7th. What's not to be happy about?? It was a guy that was going to but either this year or next but instead we get great compensation for him.jackal wrote:Not happy about this ...

Maybe we will draft the next Tom Brady with one of those picks from Buffalo!

Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
I think it's great move for lots of reasons. I like the point made by kurtkeoki about the caliber and cost of the backup verus overall caliber the team.
They are in the perfect time and place to draft another kid to bring along with team team on a rookie contract for the next couple of years and can sign a journey vet in between. A guy both TB and a rookie could learn from in the film room.
Plus a pick and cap flexibility. Matt Cassel is the gift that keeps on giving(unless you're KC) NE got a 1st rounder for him. I hope he does well in Buffalo.

You said a dirty word there Moth. On this board "Ponder" should probably turn into *$#@* whenever it's typed.

Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
If they bring back Ponder, the GM should be fired before the ink is tried on the contract. No one could be that stupid...
Other than that, no reason to pay Cassell that. Sign a guy to a veteran minimum, or draft a guy. Or hopefully both. But no reason to pay a backup that much money. Addition by subtraction....

Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
i like the idea of adding whitehurst. outside of rivers he probably knows norv's offense better than every qb in the league. perfect guy to help teddy. let's face it if teddy goes down we are screwed no matter who the backup is. might as well add a guy who can basically be a 2nd qb coach for teddy.
Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
I am worried about two things who is going to be are back up.
Secondly the guy considering everything and the circumstancess
did great and we dumped him after he lost a starting spot to injury...
are other players gonna not want to come to the viiings due to this
situation

players go where the money is, and we will have money to spend.

Well. Moving up 45 picks from the 3rd to the 2nd round or 2nd to 1st, maybe something. When you are getting into the 5th, 6th round, more of a crapshoot anyway.Pondering Her Percy wrote: We just traded away a backup 32 year old that was owed $4 million and moved up 45 PICKS in the draft and gained a 2016 7th.
