Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
Supposedly Cassell and draft picks for undisclosed pick(s)
Maybe Casell and a 7th for a 3rd ? I would expect that as he was a valuable backup.
I think our guys know the value of a quality experienced backup.

Who wants to play "Guess what was traded" before we hear back?
I think we got a 5th and swapping 2nds.

Probably right on Ponder. I'd prefer a guy with more experience than Hoyer. Is Jason Campbell still playing? I always liked that guy.dead_poet wrote: Hoyer is a possibility. I think they'd probably prefer Ponder elsewhere (and vice-versa).

That's probably a bit much. I'm hoping at least a sixth.Cliff wrote:Who wants to play "Guess what was traded" before we hear back?
I think we got a 4th and swapping 2nds.

I found that Buffalo doesn't have a 4th anyway, it doesn't appear. So I switched to a 5th rounder and swapping 2nds (bills move up 5 slots).dead_poet wrote: That's probably a bit much. I'm hoping at least a sixth.

Don't worry guys, we still have Pat Devlin #SuperBowl

Re: Cassel traded to Buffalo
Seems just like a salary dump. Guess they don't really care about a serviceable backup if Teddy goes down as there isn't really any FA out there unless they plan on drafting one early.Aj Mansour @AjKFAN 4m4 minutes ago
TRADE NUTS & BOLTS: VIKINGS GET - 2015 5th (1st pick in 5th rd, #129) & 2016 7th rd pick.
BILLS GET - Cassel + 2015 6th rd (#172 overall)

Wtf. We traded a capable back up and a pick for a 5th and a garbage throw away pick next year? Whatever I guess.

I thought his time in SD was more with Whisenhunt? I think Hoyer would be a much better option.ThePiper wrote:Wow, Goessling just posted on twitter that check down Charlie himself, Charlie Whitehurst is a big name being mentioned right now, citing his ties with Norv in San Diego. Please no

Cassel was getting paid way too much and the cap "free-up" seems quite worth it.HardcoreVikesFan wrote:Wtf. We traded a capable back up and a pick for a 5th and a garbage throw away pick next year? Whatever I guess.
Knowing how shrewed Ricky is, they might end up with a pretty highly rated QB in the draft.

@MasterStrib Some free agent QBs with Norv Turner ties: Brian Hoyer, Shaun Hill, Jason Campbell, Charlie Whitehurst #Vikings
@1500ESPNJudd For those floating Brian Hoyer's name out for the Vikings, why would a guy who wants to compete for a starting job come to Minnesota?

McCown was outright released. Cassel may be better than McCown but probably not by much.HardcoreVikesFan wrote:Wtf. We traded a capable back up and a pick for a 5th and a garbage throw away pick next year? Whatever I guess.
Look at it this way, Cassel was a free agent in 2016. We just got an extra 5th and freed up an extra $4+ million in cap space. I'm fine with this (and never was a big Cassel fan anyway).
