Mike Zimmer, Year One

I think he's done a fine job considering losing Cassel and the whole AD situation.

He's a rookie coach and had his share of mistakes and is dealing with many players from the last regime who played for a drastically different coach in terms of temperament.
I'm not sold on everyone having bought into his style......the close losses and late game collapses suggest a few things, not the least of which being some possible changes in personnel.

The loss of AD was huge due to him being the virtual heart and soul of the team as well as the key to the offense. Now that TB seems primed to assume that mantle, the next season should look a lot different compared to the previous 4-5 years.

I'm glad he's the HC.

Don't get me wrong guys, I am ecstatic to have him as our coach. I wonder what some other team's records would be after losing their starting QB, half their starting OL, having their most talented WR essentially not show up for the season, their starting TE, and their starting RB (let alone a beast like AD) for the majority of the season.
What a horrific season to have for your first as a HC.

It is interesting to see how different coaches deal with adversity. Both Zimmer and Jay Gruden have both dealt with quite a bit of adversity in their first seasons, but imo Zimmer has dealt with his cards a lot better than Gruden's circus he is running over there. Obviously this isn't apples to apples, as Washington is probably a bigger demograph and whatnot, but you guys can see where I'm coming from.

I always thought Sanchez got a lot of undeserved flack in NY. He led them deep into the playoffs and almost beat Pittsburgh one year in the AFCC game.

I don't really like to point out all the close losses without also counting close wins. We needed OT to beat the Jets and Bucs. I'm optimistic about the future, but just not a fan of moral victories in losses.

Theoretically, those numbers from the screenshot should improve even more next year. I think Zimmer has done a great job. I'm sure there's things we can point to here and there that we can nitpick, but for a first year head coach, there is a lot to be optimistic about.

One thing that really stuck out to me in Zimmer's closing press conference....

He mentioned that he knows the players so much better now than he did coming into this job last year. It's much more easier for him to assess who belongs and who doesn't belong now. Which in turn, tells me there will be a lot of changes and he's going to be able to find the right guys to come in and play at a high level.

Im pretty pleased with Zimmer as a head coach. I think he is a strong defensive mind, and also commands respect from the players. He also has no issue taking chances, and evidenced by quite a few 4th down attempts, and most of them were successful. The Offense still feels like its not really his baby though, and while I believe Norv did a good job developing Bridgewater over the year, the offense just never was running on all cylinders. Maybe it was the absence of Peterson, maybe just Rookie QB, Best TE, and RB gone half the year. Knowing that Norv was in charge of the offense, and Zim had basically given him the reigns. I give a little bit of a pass, but for a HC, you are responsible for it all. So even though he isn't calling the plays, he needs to get more involved and get his personality engrained on both sides of the line, not just the defense. I give Zim a B+. We are pretty much where I thought we would be in the offseason. I predicted 8-8 and we fell one game short of that. I would never had thought we would still have been 7-9 with no AP for the year, and Rudolph out for half of it. I see improvement this year, and a glimmer of hope that we have finally found a good QB. Im pretty happy with the outcome of the season. I never felt like we would be in the playoffs year 1 or 2 with Zim. But I think we should see our team improving every year.

I've never been a big Maulauga fan. Seems more of a liability than asset. We can do better.
