As I think has been pointed out ad nauseam, Teddy is a ROOKIE. He's the best rookie QB in the league at the moment IMHO. Will he be a Superbowl QB? Who knows? Depends on the team built around him -- and how well he is coached. I like that he has demonstrated that he can win a game coming from behind... that's the sign of a winner. He's not a rookie QB prodigy -- but how many of THEM have have come into the league? Not very many. He may not be like Ben Roethlisberger, Dan Marino, or (cough) Cam Newton, but Teddy has promise.

If he just played ok, how can Gamecenter on NFL.COM have a 1:08 video of Bridgewater highlights? How can he be nominated for rookie of the week?

Here's a few that disagree with you:

Enemy Camp: Teddy Bridgewater above average rookie
Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater Rebounds with Impressive Showing in Week 13 Win
Vikings: Teddy Bridgewater has 'very productive game'
Teddy Bridgewater Nominated For Week 13 Pepsi Rookie Of The Week
Bridgewater to Continue to Progress in Week 13
NFL: Progress for Bridgewater The Vikings' rookie quarterback has his 5th turnover-free game in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings: Evaluation of Teddy Bridgewater so far

Here's something that may mean something to FF players (this is prior to his performance vs Panthers):
In fact, over the past four weeks, Bridgewater has scored 44.84 points in NFL.com Fantasy leagues, besting regulars such as Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler (39.38 points), Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco (42.8 points) and this week's opponent, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (43.86 points), during the same span. It might also surprise some that Bridgewater has been even more of an effect from a Fantasy perspective during the past month than more heralded options like Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (32.78 points) and San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (22.98 points).
Another stat:
In all three of Bridgewater’s victories, he has led the Vikings back after trailing in the the 4th quarter. In the last four minutes while trailing, Bridgewater has posted a 66.7 completion percentage and an impressive 93.1 passer rating. These numbers inflate even more to 80.0 and 109.2 when the Vikings are down with less than 2 minutes to go.

I'm just getting tired of you constantly downplaying his performance. We get it, you're not a Bridgewater fan.

I guess I'm not the only one that thinks this now. Sure am glad we have a pure pocket passer on this team!!!
Former NFL GM and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian believes "what we’re seeing this year is the incredible erosion
of the running quarterback."
NFL.com draft guru Gil Brandt agrees, saying "I think we’re slowly, slowly going back to the age of pocket quarterbacks." Specifically, Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton have been two of the least-accurate quarterbacks in the league this season, and they've noticeably regressed or flatlined as passers. Both have cannons for arms, but don't display the touch and aren't making plays with their legs due to injuries or the realization by the coaching staffs that it's not worth the unnecessary hits after seeing Robert Griffin III tear up his knee in 2012 and ankle in 2014. SI's Peter King has a good read on the topic at the link below.

I don't think we ever left the "age of pocket quarterbacks". I've been hearing about how running QBs would change the way the position is played for 30 years and it hasn't happened yet. The best passers in the game are still pocket passers and that will probably always be the case.

I think Rogers epitomizes what mobility can add to an elite passer's game. However, the key there is that Rogers is a elite passer before all else. Guys like Newton, Vick, etc. might have unbelievable physical talent, but they do not hold a candle to what the likes of Rogers, Brady, and Manning can do with their arm.

One of the things to like about Bridgewater is he definitely is looking to pass before he runs.

I'm not a "fan" or a "non-fan". What I get tired of is people downplaying the rest of the game to emphasize the last two minutes of each half (or now, the fourth quarter). Good quarterbacks don't play good for a quarter, or 4 minutes. If he played better in the other parts of games the team would be up by double digits and we wouldn't be hearing about how he brings the team back when they're losing. If he made routine down field plays to open receivers this wouldn't be an issue.

He could improve, obviously. Or he couldn't. Nobody has any idea. But to take shots at other posters because in a quarter of the game he plays better than the other 3/4s?

Exactly. The media builds up the runners. They never get rings. Even Wilson isn't a runner. He's close, but he's a scrambler. He looks to pass. That's what Teddy does, and thank god. Even getting chewed out for not running and punting once in a while is better than running more often and getting hurt, or not looking to keep plays alive as a passer. Which the last two guys we had didn't do. Definitely an improvement over the one read and run guys in the league that rarely make the playoffs. But if a guy has one good year and runs? Jaws says they might be the best QBs in the history of the league.

I've been sitting on this stat for a while wondering when it would be relevant...

With 91 carries for 679 yards, Russell Wilson leads all QBs in rushing and ranks 15th in the entire NFL. He's only 19th in the NFL in passing yards, and he averages more yards per carry than yards per pass. So he is very efficient, but the idea that he isn't a runner is a bit off.

So by your standards, he's not a good QB. It doesn't change the fact that he's led the Vikings to three victories after trailing in the 4th. And to put all the blame on Teddy for falling behind in games is pretty unfair IMO. Yes he's missed receivers. But there's also been missed tackles, missed blocks, bad coverage, dropped balls, penalites too. He's had 5 games w/o a turnover and has a 7/2 TD-INT ratio since the Bills game. Even I'm not saying he's at a level where you can consider him a good QB. But to describe his last game as just 'ok' or saying that his performance has been steadily regressing holds no water (which, if you read my post again, was the reason for my post in the first place).

He's pretty objectively NOT a good QB at this point. He's been below average for much of the season and flat-out terrible at times. He's shown flashes, but he needs to improve significantly if he is going to be the quarterback of the future.

Spot on but I would add that he seems to be improving and I sincerely hope that he does turn out to be the QB that the Vikes had invisioned when they moved up and drafted him. He is a hard kid not to like, with a great attitude and personality IMO.

Yeah I agree too. He played very well last game and I am really excited to see what he can do with a full off season under his belt.

Not sure where the below average part is coming from. Every QB has to improve significantly from their rookie season but I'm much more encouraged than you seem to be. He's receiving at least a B grade from every analyst out there right now and pretty much every one of them have been impressed with what he has been doing. Yet he's below average and flat out terrible at times in your eyes?? Hmmmm...I cant agree with that one

Honestly, it should be pretty obvious. It's reflected in his overall performance and his stats. For example, his passer rating, completion percentage, yards-per-attempt and even TD/INT ratio are all below average for a starting NFL QB.

I think it depends on the standard of measurement used. I wouldn't say he's been below average by NFL rookie QB standards but by NFL starting QB standards, he's definitely been below average. I don't think there's any doubt he's been terrible at times. He had a terrible game against the Lions and was awful for the majority of the Chicago game. He played pretty poorly in the first half against Green Bay too, although he bounced back nicely. Last week, he was very efficient in a win, one of his more encouraging moments. The way he led the team to a tying score late in the game at Tampa Bay was another very encouraging moment but overall, I agree with maembe, Bridgewater needs to improve significantly if he is going to be the quarterback of the future. His level of play this season, while typical and acceptable from a rookie, isn't good enough to hold down the job in the long term. Fortunately, I think he's likely to get better. :)
