"The quote I put above regarding him staring down receivers is literally the complete opposite of TB. And sure he can run but like I said, how many dual threat QBs make it in the NFL anymore??? TB is a pure pocket passer, also the complete opposite of Mariota. Poise, composure, going through progressions, and being a pure pocket passer.....I would take any day over a dual threat QB. Newton, RGIII, Vick, Kap/Wilson (saved by good defenses), etc...they are far from elite QBs. TB is athletic enough to get out of the pocket if he needs to, that's all I ask for. I don't want a guy that runs all over the field like Cam and RGIII but can't carry their teams to victory.
First off, I am enjoying this discussion regardless of the fact that you and I disagree. First off,I would take Kap/Wilson over TB any day and any time.
You keep talking about TB's poise in the pocket/composure but mostly I see him poised alright but then I see him missing wide open receivers, checking down way to quickly, and that to me negates his poise and composure by a mile. Secondly until/if the Vikes do not fix their o-line then screw a pocket type passer because they will be destroyed with the current line. That, in of itself, would be a great argument for drafting or acquiring a QB such as Wilson/Kap and surely Mariota.
So you stay patient with TB and I will hope and pray that he can develop into the franchise QB that we all have been waiting for but I have my very very strong doubts that he will be.[/quote]

It is an enjoyable discussion!! It's funny we usually agree on almost everything except regarding TB. All in all, we both make valid points toward the argument. I just don't want to stray too much away from TB at this point since that is what the thread is about. My biggest thing with Teddy is, we just have to give him time. As many have said before, all rookies have their struggles year 1. The big test will be next year and we will have to see what the organization decides to put around him. There isn't a chance they give up on him after year 1. Serious question though, has that ever even happened to a rookie QB??

Yes, and not that long go. The Panthers drafted Jimmy Clausen and bailed on him as their QB of the future after one season, choosing to draft Cam Newton instead.

You are right, we usually are both on the same page and as most know, I am an incurable optimist ( kool-aid drinking purple shaded fan).
But even as excited as I was when they drafted TB, I just have a "bad" feeling about him and his future. It would be great if he started improving and looking like he is/was the QB that many of us hoped for. And I am no Oregon fan (far from it) but as I mentioned, with the state that this o-line is in, I would love to have a Kap/Wilson, Mariota style QB. So on this topic we can agree to disagree

I'm sure there have been plenty of rookie QBs that have been released after their first year with a team, but probably not any that were drafted in the first few rounds. I think Ryan Leaf lasted 2 years in SD (missed 1 year because of a shoulder injury) before they let him go, Tim Tebow lasted 2 years in Denver and JaMarcus Russell was let go after 3 years in Oakland, but those are the only big name QBs in recent history I can think of that were let go relatively early.

And by no means is Teddy playing THAT bad for them to just give up on him. I don't really consider his play bad. It's just average right now but what do you expect from a rookie QB with a deteriorating offense

We have to see progress. I think Teddy has shown that. If you watch tape on him, he can throw a good, hard accurate ball. Some of his passes have a ton of zip on them. He is a pocket QB, which is what a lot of us wanted. I dont think anyone was pushing for a read option QB. See how much time he has, and then how much time any other QB has, and you can see why Teddy isn't having a good year. And hes a rookie, baptism by fire. Give the kid a halfway decent line, and a couple good targets, and he will be ok. He deserves at least as much time as #7 got. But we do need to get some decent bacakup QB's. Right now we don't. Who knows how Cassel will be next year, and Im hoping the other QB is gone.

I agree 100%. I don't mind Cassel at all as a backup. I can just about guarantee he is gone. They declined his 5th year option and this year, he had one game that was disastrous.....I think that pretty much says he's good as gone. One guy I wouldn't mind snagging as a backup or 3rd stringer is Colt McCoy. He did a pretty good job filling in this year. Granted it was only 1.5 games but still, he led them to a win against a red hot Dallas team and was lights out vs. Ten (11-12 for 128 and 1 TD). He would be pretty cheap I imagine

Colt McCoy is starting this weekend. We'd have a better shot at RGIII.

I'm not sure Washington thinks their future is Colt McCoy though. Also, I wouldn't touch RGIII with a 10 foot pole

I'll admit, I loved RG3. When the Skins made that move, I was so jealous. But its looking like a big bust, mostly because Shanahan is an idiot for playing RG3 too soon (while he was injured). Now, I would only like Rg3 cheap, and if we had Teddy and someone other young QB. Its really a shame, I thought he would be one of the really good ones of this decade.

PB, are you sure you would want Kap on this team?? He's downright horrid tonight. And Russell Wilson is as conservative as it gets. Bottom line is, their defense is what saves them. Some get on Teddy for his mechanical flaws but neither Kap or Wilson are legitimate QBs either. They are both pretty average. Like I said, dual threat QBs just don't get the job done in the NFL anymore. Look at RGIII and Cam

PB? I hope you aernt talking about me, cause I certainly don't. Wilson I would. Not Kap.

Wilson has a better running game, making him look slightly better then he is IMO. But I still would like to have him. But not enough to change over to an option offense.

Purple bruise wrote: I am not sure how this got into my quote but I did not say it, "I wouldn't trust him. He basically just stands in a perfect pocket for five seconds every play and then makes a nice pass to a wide open receiver. Obviously he can run really well too, but it's impossible to tell if his talent is going to translate to the NFL, and the Flacco comparison makes no sense since their styles are polar opposites".
It was a simple formatting error. It looks like maembe fixed it and I've fixed it in your post too, so the language is attributed correctly now.

Wilson and the Seahawks just won a Super Bowl. You can't "get the job done" much better than that (except by doing it again).
