From the beginning of this episode, i decided that however this turned out, I would accept the outcome. At the beginning, I felt that they would quickly come to a plea agreement, suspend Peterson for a good portion of the season, and then try to resurrect his image (even with his hefty contract). When that didn't happen immediately, I then thought whatever happened, then it was the way it should be.

I feel very conflicted about Peterson. Pity for him because his actions were so ignorant, and disappointment and anger for the very same reason. The twelve-year-old in me, I admit, wants him back running the ball. But that's such a small piece of the equation now. The adult in me would accept if he never played another down, for the Vikings or another NFL team. His actions were his alone, after all, and he has to face the consequences. I do believe in second chances, and, hopefully, I'll be able to look at him through a lens that isn't tainted, or tainted as much as it is presently, at some point. My view of him has be altered permanently, but I hope that he learns from this and become a better, more responsible parent. It doesn't rally matter what my yardstick is in regards to how I think he should move on from this, so I won't bother elaborating on it.

So, here's my point ... I can easily understand if someone doesn't want him on the team any longer. In the same vein, I understand if someone is willing to accept him back. That's what fans do. I suspect that if he returns to the field wearing purple, that I'll get excited as hell when he breaks off a big gain. But carrying the ball isn't the most important thing I'll be cheering on Adrian Peterson to do any longer.

Of course, that isn't going to be easy. But man...does anybody remember how we felt after Week 3? Peterson had been suspended, we'd lost this board, we'd dropped 2 losses in painful fashion...I would have never expected the season to be this exciting after the bye week.

I meant to reply to your comment above yesterday. It's a great perspective. Things were looking really grim for this season in week 3 and now it's actually pretty fun and exciting. That's not only a relief, I think it's something we VMB fans really needed!

These are some of Peterson's attorney's comments from the courthouse steps. I hadn't seen these posted here and thought they were worth sharing.

"I think this is a very fair and just resolution of this thing," Hardin said. "This is a very complicated issue socially but it was very simple from our standpoint. The facts have never been in controversy. Adrian has always said he very much regretted and hated what happened as far as the injury. He has always accepted responsibility for it. And today was a step forward in that situation."

I really think he put it pretty well, and summed up the whole issue from my perspective. It is a complicated issue socially.

I'm glad you guys are having fun and see the excitement now! I've had faith in Zimmer and this football team, I love analyzing data and information and everything that was coming in from our free agent signings, the draft, and our new coaches looked very positive to me. I didn't see Peterson being out of course nor did I imagine the O-line would struggle as much as they have without him but everything else has gone according to plan imo. I figured BW would be in for Cassel at some point but definitely not that early so that was another surprise.

Even if we don't meet my lofty win / loss expectations I think most will agree that the ship is headed in the right direction. One thing I learned from last year and as much as I don't think Frazier is a GREAT (I think he's average) coach, his team got stronger towards the end of the year and finished relatively better than they had started. I guess my point is, when teams have room to improve, and both last year and this year's teams have had room to improve, it's a long season, and theres a good chance they actually will improve.

Of course we haven't finished yet, like Zimmer says, talk to me when the season's over so there is a chance we go 0-7 and I'm sad but I hope not!

It is a game (that involves a lot of $) so yeah, winning is what matters mostly. It's not like you're now forced to inviting him over for a family dinner every Friday.

I think it was just a general comment, not meant to compare Hernandez and Peterson. Vick spent time in prison and has come back to play.

The point remains, they are completely different levels of criminal action. While I do not support it, there is an argument to be made that what Adrian did was him trying to be a good father for the kid - many people came to his defense on those grounds. Murder, on the other hand, isn't considered good under any circumstance, and nobody would defend that. The comparison is ridiculous, even if we all believe that Adrian should be punished.

I'm sure we've all needed forgiveness before. Let's not fail to remember that he is a human too.

And this WILL NOT be a paid vacation, PK. Please stop saying that it will. The commissioner has been waiting for a verdict before handing down a punishment, and it's likely that Adrian lost more games waiting for the legal process to end (8) than he would have if he had been punished immediately (6). There will also surely be a fine.
