QB roster next year?

Post by 720pete »

Ponder will likely be gone. Team doesn't seem high on MBT. NFL season has proven again and again that you need a capable backup.

Where does that leave the Vikings roster? Is Cassel a decent backup? Will he even want to be a backup? Will we want to pay him $5 million just to sit on the bench?

I'll say... he's already gone. They released him and re-signed Harnish to the practice squad.

At this point, it's just too early to get a read on what the Vikes QB depth chart will look like in 2015. It could be Bridgewater, Cassel and Harnish or Bridgewater, and two other QBs. I think the only we can be certain about is that the Vikings want Bridgewater to top that depth chart.

QB roster next year?

I think Cassel is an ideal backup. He's a good teammate and a smart guy, he just simply not talented enough to put it all together on the field. Teddy could use a player/coach and I can think of a lot worse emergency options than Cassel.

Teddy, Cassel, Ryan Mallet (the guy we should have took instead of #7). I also kinda like this Harnish guy. If you haven't, you should watch some of his stuff.

QB roster next year?

Get rid of Cassel and Ponder. Cassel is a good teammate but I'm tired of these game manager types being on the roster. If Teddy ends up being the long term answer at QB then bring someone in to back him up that doesn't cause the offense to take three steps backwards if they have to spot start him. Cassel just doesn't excite anyone and I'm not even going to acknowledge Ponder. Where is our Matt Flynn? Guy was terrible when given starter money and ended up back in GB BUT the fans love him and he can put up 300 yards while giving the fans some hope when Aaron Rodgers is on the mend. Anyone remember Todd Bouman??? Definitely wasn't pre-injury Culpepper caliber but the guy still put some air under the ball and made the Randy ratio work. Someone like that. Sure...Bouman had his issues but he was a BACKUP. I didn't mind a pick now and then as long as he was still slinging it downfield. What I can't stand is seeing these game manager types come in off the bench for a start and then we end up down three touches by the half with a guy who can't throw past ten yards. It's game over and not fun to watch as a fan. So from a backup standpoint, give the fans someone to be excited about and rally around.
