I agree with what many people have said..
I totally understand why you feel the way you do. Football is not the same anymore.
Personally I am not concerned with the health issues with the players, very much. Football
is a very rough sport; and those who choose to do so, put themselves at risk.
To me the colleges should have much more responsibility to the players, they make millions,
off of. They should be much more accountable to the players needs. Let's be honest division
one football is just a try out and training league for the NFL. Other political organizations
should demonstrate their concern and help these young men, as well. Just my opinion; my opinion
and two cents and you have two cents, basically.

Re: SI Article about shutdown / me
Thank you, Geoff, for running the Board for so many years and for taking over for Mike's phenomenal work. No worries at all on my end what happened this week. The best part about this Board is that it is moderated for civility.
For those who want to criticize, please realize that this Board goes back a long way. The article referred to "Google Groups" but it wasn't just Google Groups, it was usenet for a long time before google even existed as a company and the Vikings were a unique pro football group, one of the first, and had a name that was a little different from the rest: alt.sport.football.mnvikings (ASFMV). The rest were alt.sport.football.pro.teamname. I was a lurker for a long time before starting to post on VMB as "UpperPeninsulaVikingFan."
Of course, when usenet became Google Groups, google makes the archive available. Here's the first thread I found where Geoff posted in ASFMV from Sep 1999, fifteen years ago. For those who have been around, many of the names in the thread are on this Board, some are not.
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searc ... wOuZJr0SQJ
The thing about that thread, it's on topic and it's about football. ASFMV became something else not long thereafter. That's why this Board started.
Thanks to all for keeping the community alive. I never thought the community would end because of the history. But I also never considered that Geoff could have made it disappear with a few keystrokes. I'm glad he's a computer programmer.
The final words I have for Geoff Gass today is thank you and good luck in future endeavors.
Best,
Dave

I really miss Dr. Zaius' breakdowns of plays. Really helped me learn to watch the game.
Seems like I had seen him on another board (Purple Thoughts?), but it has been some time. OTOH, I really don't frequent that group much, so maybe have missed him.

Well, Geoff, I'm not going to say what you did is ok, because I don't think it is, but as someone who has a broken closet door from last year's Baltimore game, I know how bad it feels to throw a stupid tantrum and do something that is unfixable (or at least, not easy to fix...). Thank you for the apology, and for working hard on restoring the board. I do hope you come visit every once in awhile, it wouldn't be the same without you.
Take care, Geoff.
Take care, Geoff.

I think the fact that you started a thread on an article about you shows that it's all about you.

Has anyone ever seen Geoff in person?

Nice try, "Geoff"

Re: SI Article about shutdown / me
Well, this whole thing turned quite bizarre, huh?
When the board got shut down I assumed some high level crisis or nastiness had happened in the afternoon when I had meetings at work and couldn't check the board. When the board came back online, to my surprise, I logged back in only to find that my account was deleted along with all of my posts. Feels pretty weird to be one of the xholes. I merely tried to point out the many levels, nuances, and perspectives on the AD situation and start a higher level of thinking on the topic (I work in Higher Education, go figure) because the situation is not completely all right or completely all wrong.
Coincidentally, many articles have been written since the VMB shutdown which highlighted the points I tried to make (in a much better fashion). An article that Mothman posted in the AD thread and another one that can be found at www.salon.com by searching "The Racial Parenting Divide" (I'm still not feeling too confident to post my viewpoint) are a couple that talk about the multiple levels of the situation.
Anyway - happy to be a member again. Not happy that I lost my account that I'd had for many years. I probably won't post much anymore and go back my 2006 lurking ways again because of what I view as hypocrisy around here (sexually oriented meme is still posted multiple times in the AD thread despite the terms stating it shouldn't be allowed yet my account was deleted for challenging a viewpoint).
The actual football talk around here is the best on the internet, though, so go Vikings.

Re: SI Article about shutdown / me
If it helps any, there are plenty of us who didn't agree with the decision to shut down the board and/or ban members. Geoff obviously felt strongly enough about it to go forward with that, but I doubt the majority agreed with it and likewise, I doubt the majority would want anyone who has some insights and perspectives to share to stop posting based on what happened.TSonn wrote:I probably won't post much anymore and go back my 2006 lurking ways again because of what I view as hypocrisy around here (sexually oriented meme is still posted multiple times in the AD thread despite the terms stating it shouldn't be allowed yet my account was deleted for challenging a viewpoint).
Hopefully you'll stay active on the board.
