Flash also has more receiving yards right now than guys like Larry Fitzgerald, Desean Jackson, and Percy Harvin. He also leads our team in yardage. I don't understand the criticism at this point.

I don't understand it either. After watching the film, Cordarrelle made plenty of adjustments. The Pick where CP was targeted was a terrible decision by Matt, who got baited on the throw. No kidding about one scoring threat at a time. Last time we had two really developed offensive playmakers, Percy goes and hurts himself.

CP isn't good at adjusting his routes. He isn't good at separation. Doesn't have the soft hands. I hope our WR coach is able to teach him, because we are bad at WR, terrible in fact, until Simpson comes back. My question is, how long does it generally take for a raw WR to learn in the NFL? And is our WR coach any good? Because Theilan is looking better then wright at this time. Simpson always has been. Jennings is a #2, at the very best, on any other team.

Not sure why you like him so much. i mean he's had 1 TD in TWO years as a starting X wide receiver. That's almost as bad as Chris Cook not recording an INT in 4 years as a Viking.

I like him as a number 3-4 WR but he is nowhere near our best WR. Jennings is one of the most sure-handed and consistent route runners you could find. Simpson isn't quite sure handed and his route running is a toss up. There is a difference here as well....Simpson is at his ceiling, Patterson still has plenty to go until he hits his ceiling.

I agree, although I may be a bit higher on Simpson than you are. If Simpson is your #1 WR, your corps is not looking so hot, but if he's a 3 or even 4 you know your receivers are at least decent and somewhat deep.

I like the speed and energy he brings, and although I don't like to admit it, his stupid first down celebrations are growing on me.

With Adrian out indefinitely, I wouldn't mind seeing us use Flash as our halfback, even just for 25-35% of the snaps. We have lined him (and Percy, once upon a time) up in the I-Formation, and had success with it in the past.

I would love this as well, but from what I understand CP isn't strong in the way a traditional HB needs to be.

It may be painfully obvious that whenever they line him up in the backfield the play is not going to go up the middle. If Norv avoided using him out of the backfield as much because without Peterson he had no big threat up the middle, I'm not sure how much he'll use Patterson as a regular HB given the lack of the threat up the middle now. (Then again Belichick is definitely a great defensive coach)

love having this board back! this place is great. of ALL of the things that suck for the vikes right now...of all the crap both on and off the field...of all the weaknesses we have... we focus on our second year receiver...our mot dynamic player, a guy who averages nearly 12 yards a catch despite being thrown to by cassel in between interceptions, because in all his experience he doesn't run the crispest routes or adjust to the ball in a manner some fans would like. whoa.

Patterson is a play maker pure and simple. He might still be learning the ins and outs of WR, but he has talent and charisma bursting out of every seam. Get him the ball in one way of another 10 times a game, and you have a good chance of winning.

Of course, having better protection and quarterback play also goes a long way. Look at it this way: Patterson is already pretty darn good and there's probably still capacity for improvement. I'm hoping things really click next season with another season/offseason to improve and if/when Bridgewater starts.
