This story has vastly evolved since I first heard about it yesterday. It appears that this may indeed have been child abuse and not a misunderstanding. Sad. I guess you never really know a person until you 'know' them. Everyone has a dark side.

I can feel the air slowly coming out of our balloon as far as the progress we have made this offseason/preseason. I hope I am wrong, but, after being a Vikings fan all my life, I can just feel it almost.

Off topic, but say what you want about Randy Moss. At least the guy never beat a four year old child until he bled. Randy has always and will always be my favorite player.

I hate having the kid pick the branch and then take him to the "whoopin room" with the leaves in his mouth. If that is how it happens, it seems sick.

This is the most bizarre, sickening thing I have ever experienced in sports. I have made peace with the fact that it's over. I just hope it turns out for the best for all parties involved. At the end of the day, I am proud of the way the Vikings have handled this situation, if nothing else. Good for you Wilfs, Zimmer, and Spielman. Go Vikes.

I had a similar thought earlier. He'll always be my favorite...well, unless something ridiculous comes out. You just never know anymore.

This thing affected my whole weekend. It's been a weird two days. I'm really curious to see how the fans react tomorrow. Some guys at the hotel got in the same time as we did. I got a, "Oh, you like child abusers, too!" Then they laughed. Talk about an awkward "Hello". Yikes! I suppose everyone is just embarrassed. It's so ridiculous. Curious to see how all of this negative energy affects the home crowd. I feel like I've been hit by a bus now, but I think I'll be good to go tomorrow. I have to be! The team needs our support!

And being the capitalist country we are...tens of millions of dollars is even more helpful...maybe he can take some anger management classes like Ray Rice...

Hunter Morrow my feelings exactly. Like I have said before I have two boys would anyone on this board do these things to their own children?? Really?? AP should be gone from our team ASAP if this proves to be true. LIKE #### TOMORROW!!! I said before this guy is a bum pure and simple. Don't give 2 #### what he has done in the past. Except fumble multiple times during the NFC Chanp Game which Favre got the blame for.

@purplehaze. I sm relieved to see u agree with my assessment. Its massively disappointing but AP needs to be hone if the purple n gold want to retain any dignity and pride. I am just stunned and embarrassed and depressed.

Every alleged action attributed to Adrian Peterson in this story is awful. I'm heartbroken for the children if the alleged acts prove a regular course of action in his household those times when his children are present.

Chicagopurple you as a pediatrician are a professional in your field and I believe you are spot on. Here is where I am really chapped. 2 things. #1 the physical brutality of a 4 year old which I am fairly confident that most of the posters on this board who have children (not 7 illegitimate) would not discipline their children in this way. #2 It really bothers me that this guy preaches the bible. I have a really hard time with this. I know we are getting into some deep stuff but really? Faith Vs. Works?

I've never understood this popular obsession with perfect morale character. I will humbly submit that no individual is without flaws, including myself. Seeking perfection is a noble pursuit, but anyone who strives for this knows that it is the impossible effort that is of the most value, because the result will always come up short in some way. Humanity is flawed, it always has been. Thus, if we demand perfection from our athletes then we'll quickly be either watching robots or we will no longer have sports. Again, what does their moral character have to do with their ability on the field? IMO, it has nothing to do with their ability to play football.

I'm sure some will think this is cold and callous, and maybe it is. But the NFL is entertainment. Mel Gibson has shown himself to be an anti-semite, I still enjoy Braveheart. That is but one example, but there are many, many more. Pick your poison, everyone has flaws, often those with the most success often have some of the worst. I am fine watching high quality football with the finest athletes in the world. The competitive meat grinder of the NFL is what makes it great, not whether or not all of it's players are upstanding members of society.

I'm glad the legal system is going to handle Mr. Peterson's offense. That is the proper channel for such things. I fail to see why the NFL is now expected to double (or triple) down on our legal process. Do we the people feel that the legal system is somehow insufficient? Or is it that we somehow feel as if we should also punish him? Obviously the NFL is reacting to negative PR, they are protecting their brand. However, that should cause of all of you fear and trepidation. This is mob rule at it's absolute worst. Where does it all end? We are going into week 2 and hardly anyone in the media is actually talking about football. Is this really better? Are Sports Reporters really the best people to have telling us what is right and what is wrong?

I fear my time as an NFL fan may be dwindling and not because I dislike the game, but because the PR and media surrounding the game are tarnishing and poisoning the entire experience. The purity of competition was already on life support with all the new passing rules. This is just another nail in the coffin.

The reason there should be extra consequences is the fact that playing in the NFL gives its players the stage to be role models and heroes to many, especially kids. This makes it even worse when these "heroes" make poor decisions. With the huge payday comes a huge responsibility. I don't play in the NFL, do not make millions of dollars, but do work with and have influence on children, and I too would lose my job if I were involved in an incident like this one.

Keep in mind, I stated that FOR myself, this is the most bizarre, sickening experience I have had with sports. None of those other incidents occurred: A. When I was old enough to understand them fully and B. (Most importantly) None of those things hit as close to home for me, as Adrian's situation, considering he's a Viking and one of my favorite players. When you become so invested in a team and player, these things sting. They feel like they are happening to a personal friend, not just a celebrity athlete. Again, this is how I FEEL, so I don't know that you can really dispute that, as I am speaking for no one but myself. I would appreciate if you didn't respond to my thoughts and opinions with sarcastic comments like the one above, and I will do the same for you. I completely respect your point of view, and would ask that you respect mine as well. Thanks.
