Ben Goessling

Zimmer said he likes the continuity on the OL, probably won't use Yankey with first team. Charlie Johnson looks like your starter, folks.

Interesting take away from Zimmer's press conference after Saturday's walkthrough, Harrison Smith (and apparently all of the safeties) were never asked to participate in one-on-one coverage drills with the WRs in practice under the old staff. They are now.

I also like the fact that you can actually hear the questions now, they do a good job of switching audio between the reporters and Zimmer.

They must have listened to all of us here complaining about it last year.

Will be interesting to see where he fits. Had better-than-anticipated '13. Key opportunity with Blanton on the shelf and position unsettled.

It will definitely be interesting to see where he fits. I wasn't really impressed with him last year. He can make the big hit but he took a lot of bad angles and to my eyes, he seemed slow to react in coverage. I actually thought sanford was a better combination of similar skills.

I'm seeing (saw) it the same way. He can really lay the wood...IF he gets there. He showed some good play last year, but showed more mistakes than good play IMHO.

Perhaps the bar is just set so low. :x

I thought he was about on par with Sanford in run support and better in coverage, yielding a marginal net positive. Unfortunately I think whoever wins the position will likely be an area of weakness in the secondary. Hopefully they can be covered up with better corner and defensive line play.

LOL!

What gives Sanford an edge for me is that I think he takes better angles and he seems to have a knack for forcing fumbles but admittedly, there's not a huge difference between the two.

You may be right about whoever wins that position being an area of weakness in the secondary, although maybe one of these guys will find that they thrive in Zimmer's system. There's always hope...

I can't wait for the games to start. For some reason, I have no patience for training camp this year. It seems like the offseason is going on forever.

@Goessling: Priefer said he wants to see Thielen, McKinnon and Colter return kicks in preseason opener. Patterson probably will only get one or two in preseason.
Norv Turner will be calling plays from the coach's box, per Zimmer.
Mike Zimmer says Robert Blanton isn't expected to be back for Friday's preseason game. Andrew Sendejo was at the walkthrough BTW.
#Vikings will probably make -- or at least announce -- their decision on Priefer's replacement after Friday's game, Zimmer said.
@Andrew_Krammer: Zimmer: I like to keep more CBs on the roster (than S), seems those guys get nicked up more as you've seen.
Brandon Watts has a strained hamstring, per Zimmer. Goal is to practice this afternoon.
Vikings will see if Andrew Sendejo is ready for team drills today. Zimmer made it clear again they need to see him soon.

I wonder if his roster spot will be in danger if they don't get to see him soon.

I think it is. If Zimmer isn't going to keep as many safeties then you have quite a log jam with Sanford, Raymond, Coleman, and Blanton. And that's assuming they stash Exum on the practice squad.

I need a good reason Raymond should be on the 53.

Zimmer on Rhodes' diving INT on Saturday:"It was a great interception. It was poor, poor position on the receiver, but he made a great play"
#Vikings working Michael Mauti on outside to start team drills.
Chase Ford already out of a walking boot; appeared to be walking well in athletic shoes a minute ago.
Robinson and Sendejo both in pads. Leonard and Blanton still out.
Chris Crocker already out here at #Vikings practice.
