Re: Report: Vikes looking to "get rid of" AP (AD)
The fact of the matter is that Peterson's value too high to our team, and not high enough on the trade market to make any logical sense that we would or could trade him.
Every time this comes up, people point out his age, position and salary as reasons that the Vikings would be willing to part with him. But in order to part with him, another team would have to inherit his age, position and salary as well as give up draft picks. If you think it doesn't make sense to keep a 30 year old running back who makes 15 million a year, then why on earth do you think any team would be willing to give up premium draft picks for one?

I think the Vikes will eventually Force AD to retire when his production is no longer enough. The year after the new stadium opens seems about right. Who knows, if anybody is the exception it's AD but it doesn't make alot of sense to pay a 32 year old RB $15 milliona year if his production isn't earning the $

They can't force him to retire. Not unless they figure it would work out like the Kevin Williams situation, where he's too proud to play football for what the league is willing to pay him.Laserman wrote:I think the Vikes will eventually Force AD to retire when his production is no longer enough. I could see Adrian Peterson playing some day for Green Bay, Chicago or Detroit, in the time-honored tradition that the NFC North is known for. Meanwhile, the Vikings will be paying a 38 year old Aaron Rodgers $45M per year to play QB for them after Green Bay has released him.

well if that is the case hopefully rodgers can lead us to another nfc championship game. even superman has a weakness. peterson has been unbelievable, but eventually the body will wear down especially considering how hard he runs. we certainly don't want to wind up like tennessee they got nothing for johnson.

We definitely will lose AP if we don't make the playoffs this year. I don't now, it might even be more severe than that, but you can tell that AP's at his limit with the way that he's talking publicly. He seems pretty skeptical, the last interview I saw from him after Frazier got fired he sounded very "we'll see", and that's not a good sign.
With all that said, I'm not that worried. I really think this team has a chance to go on a big run. It all depends on whether or not this defense is as good as I think it is.

Since we're getting into this again, then a few points:
1. I don't think we can look at AP on the same career curve that applies to other running backs. He's not immune, but I definitely feel he'll be productive for more than a few years yet. He's a generational back. Guys like him have the potential to stay at it for much longer.
2. If it did come the Vikings looking to trade or not re-sign, then so be it. Vikings > any individual player. They just better be damn sure it's the right decision and that AP isn't a 1200 yard back anymore.
3. Get this man a ring, Zimmer!!!

I doubt we even get a first for him.Purplemania wrote: No way we get that much because the RB position is so devalued. A first and 3rd at most.

I said yes if price is right. He's fun to watch but painful to listen to, and I don't think he needs to retire a vike although I'd be perfectly fine with it if he does. OTOH I'd be tempted to take any reasonable offer if Ponder goes with him too.

The Vikings have a new stadium opening up in two years and everything...tickets, concessions, parking probably...will be more expensive than fans are accustomed to. If Peterson is still producing they would be fools to get rid of him. IIRC, if he keeps up his pace he'll be cracking the top 10 in all-time rushing yards that first year in the new place. It would be unwise to get rid of a guy who is guaranteed to put butts in the seats even if the team has a poor W-L record.
I see a monster season coming up for him. New head coaches will ride an established RB as much as possible. Just look at KC and Philly last year: McCoy and Charles were the two best backs in the league. Zimmer and Turner will do the same with Peterson.

I cant believe anyone would think that they would trade away AP I mean come on man, he's only been playing 7 years going into his 8th
Think about Emmit Smith 13 years with Dallas and 2 more with Arizona and we all know what he done, After narrowly missing the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie, Smith embarked on a record run of 11 straight seasons with 1,000 yards rushing. His streak came to end in Smith’s final season in Dallas in 2002 when he missed the 1,000-yard mark by a mere 25 yards, so I would say we haven't seen AP's best yet. Mike Zimmer is putting the puzzle together for a super bowl run in the very near future so lets chill out a little and enjoy the ride.

The only option I would vote for isn't available.
The "Only if some team offers some ridiculous package that would be crazy to pass up but will never happen because no team is stupid enough to make the Herschel Walker trade 2.0" option.
Short of that...no way!!
