I wouldn't mind DRC. He was a stud this past season. Either way, I think we need a veteran on a fairly cheap deal and then go after Stanley Jean Baptiste in the draft!! Or who knows, maybe they are in love with Gilbert and that's who they want to take at 8. Either way, there are still some decent corners out there that could start on the outside for us. 90% of them are better than Cook so thats all I'm worried about

Could be the plan.

Shields, Talib and Davis all got around $10 mil a year, Grimes got $8

and yet Verner was the hottest one on the market and only got $6 million a year? That seems so odd, and it's not like he took a hometown discount or went to a strong contender. Might be time to find a new agent, Alterraun.

Broncos are out of the DRC race
The Broncos have ended negotiations with free agent CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after signing Aqib Talib.
They gave Talib a six-year, $57 million deal with an NFL cornerback record $26 million guaranteed, surpassing Brandon Carr's $25 million guarantee. Rodgers-Cromartie could shop his wares to the Patriots or Jets, who are both now corner needy. Despite a standout 2013 campaign, Rodgers-Cromartie has otherwise generated no free agent buzz since pondering retirement during Super Bowl week.
Pull yr 84 jerseys out.

Yeah that makes no sense to me at all. Plus the Bucs aren't even contenders. That's a steal on Tampa's part

A little late for that, eh?

Maybe it was all media hype. I'm not saying there wasn't significant interest in him, but maybe the media built him up to be something more than he really is. I've heard/read in multiple places over the past couple weeks that he's not a physical press corner, nor is he a burner that can keep pace with fast WRs. More of a guy that relies on his smarts and film study to jump routes and such. I'm not too upset that we missed on him but I'll be upset if we don't find a starting CB in free agency.

there's still a number of them out there. Revis being the obvious one. Both Cromarties, Charles Tillman, Brandon Browner, Walter Thurmond. And even other guys that could at least be serviceable, especially as nickel guys like Captain Munnerlyn and Nolan Carroll

Rickie doing crap in FA. Over paying for a DE that I don't even think played 2 series in a row as RDE. Heck Griffen would have made a better rushing LB like Mack. And then not even making a play on Verner. WTF is he saving his money for? To fill out the rest of the ST roster first? Sick of these lack luster FA's. But I Guess Zimmer and Norv just have to touch the fore heads of players like Cassel, Dean and Jasper and they will be Pro bowlers next year. Get used to being in the cellar ladies and gentlemen.

This isn't even true. I watched the interview when it happened, he said something along the lines of "this could be it for me". It was misconstrued as him saying he was contemplating retirement, but he was only pointing out that after signing a one year deal, this could be his only chance to win a SB with Denver. He never said anything about retirement but the media thought he did and then ran with it.

Berger, entering his 10th NFL season, played in all 16 games last season, starting two. He will continue to provide depth on the line and could start if Johnson doesn't re-sign.

Johnson, who made $2.45 million last season, has been offered the chance to return. But money will be a factor.

"I'm comfortable with the city, my teammates and my offensive line coach,'' Johnson said. "It would be ideal to return, but it's not an ideal world.''

Johnson said he has a "couple of other options.'' He declined to name those teams but said he expects to make a decision by the end of the week.

Assessing the Vikings' cornerback options
So where might they look? Denver's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could be an option, especially now that the Broncos spent their money on Talib. He's 6-foot-2, is only 28 and was compared to Terence Newman (a Mike Zimmer favorite in Dallas and Cincinnati) when entering the draft in 2008. Miami's Nolan Carroll is another big corner who has essentially played in Zimmer's scheme; Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle was Zimmer's defensive backs coach in Cincinnati before going to Miami, and Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards was brought to town in part because he'd been working in the same scheme as the Dolphins' linebackers coach. Carroll would be cheaper than Rodgers-Cromartie, and he's a couple years younger, too. Cincinnati's Brandon Ghee could fit, for obvious reasons. And if the Vikings are looking for a slot corner after Josh Robinson struggled there last year, Carolina's Captain Munnerlyn could be an option, as Andrew Krammer of 1500ESPN.com points out.

One thing I don't see happening -- and the thing I probably got more questions about today than anything else -- is Darrelle Revis coming to Minnesota. Revis is only 28, and might be the best man coverage corner in the game when he's on, but he's had lots of contract squabbles, and will probably have more interest from teams closer to a championship than the Vikings.
