You obviously have given up on him "full of stale coulda been potential" but those of us who have followed him from Arkansas and through the draft still hold out hope that he beats the odds and stays healthy. From all that I have read and heard he is giving his all in rehab. Not sure about the steroid prognosis that you offered but the league does test for that and I will take the high road and believe that he does not.
He was a dynamic player in college and has a very high ceiling again if he stays healthy.

Alexander has complications from his ACL injury and keeps having clean up work. I am amazed that people think Childs is some amazing HOF being held back by injury. He was a 4th round draft pick.
Yes, in addition to whether or not he can remain healthy, there's also the very large question of whether he'll ever return to his peak athletically. He hasn't been on the field and 100% healthy since midway in the _2010_ college season, which makes the chances of his returning all the more remote.
But the very reason he fell to the 4th round was his injury and how it hampered him during his senior year when he wasn't fully recovered. Talent-wise, given the performances of his sophomore and junior years prior to the injury, he was looking like a much higher prospect than the 4th round.
I can only imagine they released Childs as a favor to him, knowing that he wouldn't be competing for a roster spot. It also indicates that they're very likely to be interested in re-signing Simpson.
He has the talent, we just have 3-4 guys who are more established ahead of him (4 if we bring back Simpson), and with his injury history, it was just an easy business decision.

Tough injuries. Ok, tough is putting it lightly. Those two patellar tendon tears he suffered were brutal injuries. I am glad Greg Childs has progressed enough to recover to normal activity and has a chance to return to the sport he loves. It its too bad we never got to see what he could have been, but on the bright side, this can be taken as a 'good sign' because our WR depth/talent is so much ahead of where it was in the 2012 offseason.
