I must've missed this tidbit (from Mark Craig chat today):
http://live.startribune.com/Event/Acces ... _Tuesday_6Q: Is George Edwards going to be Puppet on a string for Zimmer his past performance has been subpar at best?
A: Most new head coaches struggle at first when it comes to delegating. But Zimmer strikes me as a guy who will coach his coaches as hard as he coaches his players. He'll teach them how he wants it done. Zimmer did say he'll experiment with calling his own defenses in the preseason.

Some of us will be cheering on. We had hoped he would have become our HC.S197 wrote: Thanks for finding this. Judging by the comments we may see an influx of Bengals fans.

I am definitely a Vikings fan now. My son has always liked AP, and followed them, well now dad is converted to. I will still wave my sad Bengals flag, just adding a purple one.

Very cool, welcome aboard the Vikings' ship.
Cin, we empathize with you. Many of us wanted Tomlin before the Steelers lured him away from us. Sorry for your loss, but we are really excited to give Zimmer his first shot as a HC.

Spielman lauds Zimmer's evaluation skills
http://espn.go.com/blog/minnesota-vikin ... um=twitterBefore they arrived in Indianapolis, Spielman said Zimmer has, as expected, been a vocal presence in the team's draft meetings.
"I know he did a film session with all of our scouts and personnel people just looking at specific traits that he's looking for at each position," Spielman said. "And listening to him talk football, he has a reputation of taking guys that are good football players, some guys thought that maybe they were done, and yet getting them to play to their capabilities and beyond their capabilities."
Need proof? Just ask Chris Crocker. An 11-year veteran, Crocker spent the past two Septembers fielding phone calls from Zimmer convincing him to come out of retirement.

Zim's combine press conference:

I just finished watching the video at the link above and I have to say that so far, I really like Zimmer's attitude and demeanor. I feel good about him being the Vikings head coach.

Thanks, I was going to post that too. And it will be Denver or New England, both in the top 10 passing offenses, who win the SB.

Re: Zimmer
Thanks for the link, it was a good press conference. My only pet peeve is why don't the put mics in the audience? It would be so much better if you could actually hear the questions being asked.Mothman wrote:Zim's combine press conference:

When he started talking about the importance of TEAM I thought of your mantra along those lines ("But all we need is a franchise QB!!!

Good listen. I liked Rick's presser too.

Yeah, I'm kind of big on that whole "team" thing.Texas Vike wrote:When he started talking about the importance of TEAM I thought of your mantra along those lines ("But all we need is a franchise QB!!!).

It was good to hear how impressed he is with the Vikings organization so far too.
I need to listen to it!Good listen. I liked Rick's presser too.
Re: Zimmer
Some people who are more experienced at press conferences will repeat the question for listeners or else phrase their answers to make the question obvious, knowing that the press can't be heard over the mikes at the podium.S197 wrote:My only pet peeve is why don't the put mics in the audience? Re: Zimmer
I'm not an audio guy but wouldn't it be pretty easy to just put some boom mics around the room?Eli wrote: Some people who are more experienced at press conferences will repeat the question for listeners or else phrase their answers to make the question obvious, knowing that the press can't be heard over the mikes at the podium.
I honestly don't care that Zimmer isn't polished like a politician at the podium. As long as he's coherent (*cough*Childress*cough*) then it really doesn't matter to me.
Re: Zimmer
Yeah, the coach shouldn't have to repeat every question. They need an audio guy to manage audience mics on/off when asking questions.

I'm another Bengals fan who is definitely a Vikings fan too now because of Zimmer. You are all going to be amazed at what he can accomplish.
