Ryan Mallett?

Re: Ryan Mallett?
I for one am a fan of Mallet. I think he has a big arm, and has had to sit behind one of the best in the biz. He would be coming here with an actual oppotunity to start which he hasn't had in 3 yrs. Not to mention he would have decent wide receivers to throw the ball to which he would not have even if Tom got hurt.

Re: Ryan Mallett?
Right now we all need to see the combine before knowing if Mallet is worth a 3rd (I LOVE the guy but don't think hes worth a second or better) or not. Mallet smoked that whole class he was in as far as talent. Go back and watch him.

Re: Ryan Mallett?
I like Mallet and remember wanting us to draft him, but no more than a 3rd. And that's if we draft another QB in the 1st or 2nd AND keep Cassell.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

I love AD, but last I checked, he is not the GM or coach on this team. I'm sure that every player has some opinion of who they should get to be the QB here. I would bet Peterson would have a different perspective of whether a Rookie QB can lead the team had we ended up with Wilson, Luck, Cam Newton. ect. I can't put words into his mouth, but I think he just doesn't want a repeat of what has happened over the past 3 years. And who can blame him. However, AD isn't building this team, and trying to figure out how to get as much talent here and stay under the Cap. Hmm.. Maybe if AP wants to cut 8 Million off of his salary next year, he can help in the selection of a Free Agent QB to spend that money on. Otherwise, his opinion on the matter is worth about what anyone elses is.King James wrote:Not to mention that Adrian Peterson has already expressed that he doesn't want to start over with a rookie QB again. Ryan Mallet or Kirk Cousins seems like our best option right now. I really like Mallet though. Plus he got to learn 3 years behind Brady. I believe he might have what it takes to be a franchise player in this league. He's still kinda young ,25. I say give him a chance. Isn't Norv Turner suppose to be a QB whisperer anyway?

Re: Ryan Mallett?
In my opinion, you are sadly mistaken if you think that AD's opinion does not matter or is listened to. And to say that his opinion doesn't mean anymore to the team than say YOURS does (since you said anyones) is ludicrous. He is the face of this entire franchise and I would guess that when he talks the powers to be listen.KSViking wrote: I love AD, but last I checked, he is not the GM or coach on this team. Re: Ryan Mallett?
The opinion that AD is making personnel decisions for the team, or that they take into account what the players want in general is ludicrous. Do you think they submit a survey in the locker room before they make decisions? Want to make sure everyone gets their 2 cents in first? Or is it just the top 2-3 players that would get an opinion? Highest paid player? Or just because he is as you say the face of the franchise? If AD had so much influence over the years, why is Matt Birk gone, Hutch, Frazier, Percy Harvin, the guy in which AD came out and said over and over that he would be disappointed to see him leave the team in any manner. There is the business side of things, and the performance side of things. Peterson is definitely the face of the team on the performance side of things, but he is not making any calls as far as who comes to play, who is drafted, who is let go ect. There are only a few players, on a few teams in which you ever hear about that happening. And its normally a team seeking a WR to go with their current QB. Manning has campaigned for certain players to go where he has been. Brady, although he still lost Welker, and Im sure there are other examples. Also when other players have shared the locker room on a different team, those players have been asked what X player is like in the locker room, do his team mates respect them. But AD coming out and saying.. Hey, I think Matt Cassel should start for us, and I don't want to have a Rookie under Center makes a whole lot of difference. I meant anyone else on the team, but if you want to compare my voice to AP, Im sure his is listened to a bit more. However team decisions regarding players that will be drafted or targetted in FA, I have seen no evidence what so ever that Peterson is involved in those talks. Do you think on Draft day, if the guy that Spielman and Zimmer covet is available to draft, they will care one iota about an interview in which AP said he didn't want them to start over with another rookie?
In fact there have been alot of articles lately about how Zimmer and Spielman have been working together to decide what the team needs, and how people would fit into those schemes. Any hint that Peterson was in those discussions?
Opinions are opinions, I respect that you have one, but the whole dramatic "You are sadly mistaken" and things I say are "ludicrous" just makes you sound like a condescending D-Bag. If your going to go into theatrics and dripping sarcasm to make your point, at least have some facts to substantiate an opinion that is so much better than mine.
Here are a couple examples of Peterson speaking out for some other personnel decisions, that support my opinion.
Regarding Harvin

Regarding Frazier

He has said that he hopes Jared Allen and Kevin Williams are kept on the team as well. He definitely has opinions, and he doesn't mind expressing them, but he also realizes that he is paid to play games, while the front office is paid to make the personnel decisions.

I was not referring to any other player's opinion except that of AD's and I certainly DID NOT SAY THAT AD HAS EVER OR WILL EVER MAKE TEAM DECISIONSKSViking wrote:The opinion that AD is making personnel decisions for the team, or that they take into account what the players want in general is ludicrous. How many other opinions do you suppose he has had that were not made public but were ""listened " to and something done about?? I do not know that answer and I would guess that neither do you.
I guess that only a condencending D-bag would not take your word for the matter as a fact.

Re: Ryan Mallett?
Sounds like the Texans are interested.
They are thinking the Pats might ask for their 2nd round pick. If so, the Patriots are just ridiculous. Ridiculously lucky!

Re: Ryan Mallett?
Was drafted in the 3rd and has not played any meaningful snaps. He was the pick that NE got from us in that Moss trade.

Re: Ryan Mallett?
Why would the Pats trade for exactly what they paid? They aernt managed like the vikes are. I doubt they let Mallet go for 1 3rd.
Re: Ryan Mallett?
Because he's attempted four career passes. Because he's a free agent next season and, provided he moves on, the Pats wouldn't get anything. Because he doesn't have much value outside the organization. He's a lot like Toby Gerhart was for us: more valuable on our roster than anyone else's.PurpleKoolaid wrote:Why would the Pats trade for exactly what they paid? They aernt managed like the vikes are. Re: Ryan Mallett?
Saw an article about the Texans being interested on si.com
He was the QB at Arkansas' pro day last week with all 32 scouts thereHouston is reportedly in talks with New England to acquire Ryan Mallett, possibly in exchange for a third-round pick in the draft.
Mallett was selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Patriots, who have previously turned down offers for a second-round pick in the draft in exchange for Mallett.
Mallett's performance was described as simply "OK" from a source who attended the workout. Mallett's time in the NFL has not translated into a better build. He remains gangly and looked "weak physically." Despite his less-than-ideal build, Mallett remains a talented thrower. His most impressive passes on the day, according to the source, were deep outs and go routes -- two of the more valued throws in today's NFL.
