Yeah, exactly my point. Wouldn't the Patriots be busting their hump to resign him before he is lost in free agency if he is such a tallent?
I don't know that he would resign to be a backup if he had the opportunity to be a starter elsewhere.
I could be wrong. It is what it is, I like what he brings to the table, obviously others don't. It is probably a moot point, trades rarely happen anyways.

All the more reason that they should resign him. If they trade him then they should be asking more than a 3rd round it would seem. Brady will be 37 years old.

I don't know why he would resign to be a backup if he had the opportunity to be a starter elsewhere. He also has a say in the matter.
Who says they are even open to trading him? If they are, we have no idea what they deem fair value for him. To sit here and make all these assumptions is asinine anyways. I think he's got a good chance to be a good quarterback for someone based on my personal evaluation of him. You don't believe he will be any good. Whatever. I'm not going to change your mind, you won't change mine. Neither of us is right or wrong yet, it's all speculation at this point.

I never ever said that he wouldn't be good I did say that he would be the exception to the rule if in fact he is some "great" second string QB. You are parroting what I have already posted about who even mentioned they wanted to trade him and if so what would the cost be.

All fixable. Which is why he went in the 3rd, and why we should have waited. Or do you think NE doesn't knw what they are doing on draft day?
New England is no better at drafting than any other team, in fact a little worse than many. Not counting Mallett, the last time the Patriots drafted a QB was Kevin O'Connell in 3rd round of the 2008 draft. He lasted 3 years in the league.

Zac Robinson, 2010. Drafted in the 7th round pick #250. New England. With the Bengals last year.

NE doesn't hit on every pick. And he hasn't even played enough to say whether he's improved or not.
He could be a diamond in a rough, he could be Cassel, he could be Hoyer or he could be Rohan Davey.
I wasn't a big Mallett fan when he came out and I haven't seen anything that should give me reason to change that opinion.
The only backup I'd take a chance on is Cousins if the price is right. Yea he threw some INTs but I think he would be good fit with Turner.
Well he did beat out Hoyer for the backup job in NE so he has that going for him. Hoyer wasn't too bad at times for the browns last year.
I think he can move in the pocket better than he's given credit for...he's no michael vick obviously, but he got sacked less than Cam Newton facing the same competition in 2010
FWIW, I remember back in the 2011 offseason I wanted this team to draft Ryan Mallet, Cam Newton (which I knew was never going to happen), Jake Locker, and I was intrigued by Kapernick. Not like it really matters now however hahaha.
If New England would be willing to trade him away for say, a 4th round this year, or next year's third, I would consider doing it. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, trading away a 3rd/4th rounder to see if you can find a legitimate QB who still has plenty of tread on the tire left isn't all that bad. Sure, it could back fire, or you could end up with a Lombardi out of the deal. Given this team's track record of third round drafting, I would not be upset if they traded one of the picks for Mallet, or Kirk Cousins. However, will it happen? I would say there is almost 100% certainty that it will not happen so I suppose there is no point getting too wrapped into it.

ESPN Vikings blogger mentions Ryan Mallett as an intriguing trade target for Minnesota.
The Vikings are in a bit of a predicament. Matt Cassel opted out of his contract, leaving Christian Ponder as the only quarterback on the roster. Minnesota also holds the No. 8 pick in the draft, which may be too low to draft any of the top quarterback prospects. Free agency doesn't offer anything more than veteran stopgaps. Enter Mallett. Mallett and Adrian Peterson reportedly have a "friendly relationship," and GM Rick Spielman has done deals with the Patriots in the past. Spielman chose Ponder with the 12th pick in the 2011 draft. Mallett went to the Patriots at No. 74 overall. Source: ESPN.com http://espn.go.com/blog/minnesota-vikin ... um=twitter

FWIW, I still think that Spielman loves his draft picks and is looking to accumulate more than give away. It'd be hard for me to believe he'd give up one of his third-rounders for Mallett. Possibly the later one, but I still think that's too rich for a guy that's thrown four NFL passes. I'd be more comfortable with a fourth or fifth, but I doubt the Pats would go for that.

Not to mention that Adrian Peterson has already expressed that he doesn't want to start over with a rookie QB again. Ryan Mallet or Kirk Cousins seems like our best option right now. I really like Mallet though. Plus he got to learn 3 years behind Brady. I believe he might have what it takes to be a franchise player in this league. He's still kinda young ,25. I say give him a chance. Isn't Norv Turner suppose to be a QB whisperer anyway?
Purplemania wrote:Pats will want more for sure- that's how they run their organization. Right now they know there is a "secret" mist of mystery shrouding Mallet.
I love how you phrased that. I want take it literally, as if wherever Mallett goes, a mysterious, rolling mist of mystery follows him, perhaps clouding the minds of defenders who want to sack him!
