Could it be that the segment that feels he could be a good quarterback just disagrees with your analysis of Mallett? Why does it have to do with 'desperation'? I understand that you don't see him developing into a good player. You have valid concerns which you have stated, I respect your opinion, and agree he could go either way.

However, just because someone disagrees with your assessment of him, does that mean that they are desperate? Their evaluation obviously differs from yours. Who's to say your evaluation is 'right' and their's is 'wrong'?

You may be spot on about Mallett. But my belief that he can become a good quarterback for the Vikings or any other team has nothing to do with 'desperation' and everything to do with my evaluation of him as a football player.

When fans so clearly covet a QB who has done nothing in the NFL, I think it's a pretty clear indication of both hope and desperation (ie: they desperately want a solution to the team's QB problems and they hope Mallett could provide one). Neither quality necessarily says anything about whether Mallett actually represents a legitimate solution to the Vikings QB issues. I don't presume to know that, although I obviously have my doubts.

I'm not using the word desperation to disparage Mallett or you and others who believe he can become a good quarterback. I realize the word often has a negative connotation and I don't really mean it that way either. I'm trying to use it in the following sense of the word desperate: a great need or desire for something.

Vikes fans have a great need/desire to see improvement and a solution the team's QB problems and I'm no exception. I feel that same desperate need to see the problem solved. I'm just not one of the fans looking in Mallett's direction as a particularly good option to solve it.
However, just because someone disagrees with your assessment of him, does that mean that they are desperate? Their evaluation obviously differs from yours. Who's to say your evaluation is 'right' and their's is 'wrong'?
Nobody... and I hope I've made it clear that I'm not saying anyone is unequivocally right or wrong in their assessment of Mallett. As I see it, his ability to succeed in the pros remains an open question. In fact, I think it remains open to such a degree that trading for him would be a questionable decision.

Fair enough, sorry if I seemed overly sensitive about my position. Despite our unstable situation at the position, I believe I am still capable of making unbiased evaluations of players outside the organization.

I took what you were saying as something other than your intended meaning.

Cheers!

As for the draft, cocaines a hell of a drug!
He would have gotten destroyed playing behind the Vikings o-line then

Jesus H people, Mallett is not the answer. I will never understand fans' obsession with other team's backup QBs.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, would you mind letting me in on which quarterbacks in the draft are sure to bust? We may as well avoid them as well. While you are at it, reach in there and find out which team is going to win the Super Bowl next year, I would like to place a bet.

How in the world do you know? That's like me saying Bridgewater will never amount to anything. Or Bortles, or Jimmy G. I actually watched Mallet ALOT. Why? Because I liked him. Ive watched a lot of footage on him, and he is a pure pocket passer with a nice arm. And his 'issues' were mainly his use of drugs (only 1 confirmation of his using while in college). Not a real big deal. Guess what, guys with other issues are sometimes great football players. I can name a few great ones from the Vikings. Like Browner. And Moss. If you want to debate his pros and cons, that's great. but don't just throw out a blanket statement that's he isn't the answer. He would be a lot better then grabbing a 3rd round QB in the draft IMHO.

I heard he made over a million just doing that SB ad. I cant even imagine that much money for being known mostly as a failure as a QB.

Rest assured that with Brady getting older and oft injured "IF" Mallett is worth a crap and has shown Bellichick anything promissing he would not let Mallett go for a third round pick. If he is as good as so many of you are portraying him then wouldn't the Patriots keep him to be Brady's eventual replacement. I mean think about it.

Because after this year he'll walk to be another team's starting QB anyways unless they giive him a lot of money to be brady's backup, or trade brady

He's an unrestricted free agent next season.

Yeah, exactly my point. Wouldn't the Patriots be busting their hump to resign him before he is lost in free agency if he is such a tallent?

All fixable. Which is why he went in the 3rd, and why we should have waited. Or do you think NE doesn't knw what they are doing on draft day?
