Regardless of how Zimmers ends up doing here, this hire excites me and seems to excite the majority of Vikings fans. That in and of itself gives me a little more confidence in our FO and ownership.
I would love to see Turner brought in as OC. Has anyone seen or heard of potential DC's? I know Guenther was rumored to be the guy, but Cincy moved quick to promote him.
Good luck, Coach!

I am so much happier with Zimmer then I was with Childress (had a lot of Philly fans who couldn't stand him, or laughed outright that he developed McFlabb, back when he was decent) or Fraizer who wasn't hardly a decent DC imo, and shouldn't have been given the job cause the Wilfs had no idea what they were do. Im hoping he brings Johnson (DE) and that Rey (LB) and Norv Turner with him.

I don't think the finalized the deal yet. I think they're still in the negotiating close to a deal stage.

Great hire! Out of the other options he was by far the best. Hopefully he brings in a veteran OC who's called plays before and we can really get this franchise turned around! :smilevike:

I like the hire with my usual guarded optimism. It will be interesting to see who he selects to flesh out his coaching staff. For me, that is the make-or-break time. If I am really honest with myself, I am quite excited to have someone with top notch defensive coaching credentials and a coach who has the full support of his mentor, Bill Parcells. Maybe great things are ahead...

Yes! Getting Norv for OC would make this hire even more excellent. Then we could say "Norval" all the time.

Great move by Spielman. Good decision to go out and get a great defensive mind, all of our NFC North rivals are strong on offense so it makes sense. Zimmer will toughen this team up and the next two years, playing outside, will be like hitting the reset button.

unfortunately Guenther has been given the DC spot in Cincy so Zimmer loses out on his first choice.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/reports-be ... FCQUNLMV8x
The Cincinnati Bengals moved quickly on Wednesday to choose a replacement for departed defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

According to multiple reports, the Bengals promoted linebackers coach Paul Guenther to lead the defense after Zimmer prepared to accept the head coaching position with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bengals also made the move possibly to prevent other teams from hiring Guenther, according to reports. The Vikings and the Washington Redskins, both now coached by former Bengals coordinators, were reported to be interested at Guenther.

I just want to throw my hat into the I'm excited for this hire ring. The biggest reason for me is his consistency in being a top notch coordinator. As we have seen coordinators don't always translate into good HCs but he has been conistantly good and gives me hope. Now comes the draft and it will Bowl VERY interesting to see the direction we go.
