2014 Vikings Draft Discussion

After reading that article there is no doubt that Aaron Murray has a better career than McCarron. I think many draft boards had him going in the first round until he got injured. Definitely a guy I would want the Vikings to pick up if available in the later rounds.

I like McCarron because he is a leader. Put a decent group of talent around him and he will do damage. I think he would do pretty good with our offense. My only issue is our O-line because he had a LOT of time to throw with Alabama. Still, I think we have a good group of WR, TE, and a beast of a RB he can manage with.

I like them both. Cant wait for the combine.

I think that approach is how we ended up with Christian Ponder. A guy that the Vikings seem to have wanted after Locker and Gabbert were taking off the boards. I'm not saying that approach is wrong but in can either break you like us or make you like Seattle.

It's true. And that's why I really don't trust Spielman to take a quarterback because I think his evaluation is obviously crap. I'd feel better they go defense/BPA in round 1 and take a QB later because that way if you miss, you for one still have Cassel, but two were still able to get a top tier player and that 1st pick wasn't wasted.

Manziel has drive and passion. Ponder always just had that dopey "hey, I guess I'm in the NFL" look.

St. Louis Rams general manager Les Snead has the privilege of holding the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft via Washington and he's open to all kinds of possibilities.

"I don't want to sit here and go, 'Guess what, we're trading back no matter what,'" Snead said via ESPN. "You've always got to prepare for: What if you're there and nobody wants to trade? What if you actually want to take a player?"

The Redskins traded four draft picks to Snead and the Rams last year in order to move up and select quarterback Robert Griffin III, including three first-round picks. Snead isn't opposed to fielding offers for the second pick again this year.

"I think the [phone lines] are always open," Snead added. "I do know it's a valuable piece of real estate. I realize that. Now, no team's called yet."

I think Teddy is worth pulling the trigger if the Rams want to deal. But then, Next years QB's look good already. But you just never know. Spielman is going to earn his money this year.

I wouldn't want to. We would have to give up wayyyy too much and have a lot of holes to fill. I really don't believe that Bridgewater is going to be THAT much better than any of the other early round QBs. There is no QB out there in this draft that is worth that much to trade up from 8 to 2.

Your boy Rickie would have to work some magic. But yeah, it would be a huge price. No one else really jumps out at me, other then Jimmy later on. Or maybe Zach if we have a few years to kill...

Draft Insider Tony Pauline writes that UCF QB Blake Bortles is a "clear-cut favorite" to be the Texans' pick at No. 1 overall.

Pauline believes Texans owner Bob McNair prefers Johnny Manziel, but Bortles is a "Bill O'Brien type of passer," and Houston seems likely to lock in on signal callers with the draft's top pick. Bortles has drawn media comparisons ranging from Jake Locker to Andrew Luck. In his latest mock draft, Pauline pencils in Bortles at No. 1, and Texas A&M LT Jake Matthews at No. 2 to St. Louis.

Stranger things have happened. After so many "busts" of supposedly good QB's coming out of college I think teams are looking at QB's a bit different these days.

I dunno, Manziel is far and away the #1 QB imo and I can understand someone having concerns over Bridgewater's competition. I think it's entirely possible a new young coach falls in love with a guy like Bortles and convinces the team to get him. I don't think teams are looking at QB's with like "ESPN Mel Kiper" mindsets anymore, if after the combine and interview process and all that they see Bortless or Manziel or whoever as their guy take him! It's no longer a "well this guys a 97 quality prospect and this other guys a 95 so let's go with the 97".

It could be a sticky situation though if O`Brien really wants Bortles and the owner wants Manziel, if whoever they took didn't work out let the fire works begin!

I would say all bets are off when it comes to QBs. It is entirely possible for all 5 to be gone when we pick at 8. None of the "experts" predicted a massive rush of OL like we saw last year either.

I honestly believe that getting the elite QB is as much luck as it is anything else. The best guy in this draft could just as likely get picked in the 5th round or the 1st round based on the info we the fans have via sources like ESPN. There is a reason Mel Kiper is on TV and not sitting in a GM's chair...
