How do you know he's way to smart? He already made it personal, and then was told to backtrack once he got a lawyer. Sounds like a dumba$$ move to me. And you and I both know some things are said in a joking matter. Esp. in a locker room, with a football team. Or maybe things have changed a lot since I played football.
You are taking Kluwes word ALONE in all of this, that Priefer meant what he supposedly said in a vindictive way against all gay people. Do you know how absurd that sounds? Almost as absurd as Kluwe is the only Vikings to hear it. EVERYONE else has nothing but praise for Priefer.
1) Lets get how smart Kluwe is out of the way. He is highly intelligent. He scored a 1490 on his SAT. Out of a possible 1600. Not many football players do that. He turned down Harvard to go to UCLA. It's been well documented how smart he is. I don't believe he would make something like this up just to get back at someone for firing him. He knows the ramifications of what can come back at him for making stuff up.
2) You know for a fact that he was the only one who heard it? He has stated that he has the names of others who heard it. He hasn't put them out there yet, but if he has to, I am sure he will.
3) "EVERYONE" else has praise for Priefer. Really. Think I have heard from 3-5 players. Not exactly everyone. And not one of them has said that he didn't say it.
4) Change the word "Gay" to "Blacks" in what he supposedly said, about sending them to and island and nuking them. Now, defend him saying that in a joking manner and see how far it gets you.
5) I'm not taking Kluwes word for it, and neither am I dismissing it as being sour grapes. If Priefer really didn't say it he has a slam dunk case in civil court against Kluwe. My guess is, that civil case will never happen. I would be willing to bet that Priefer is not willing to take the stand in a court of law. I am pretty sure something was said, being in a joking manner or whatnot. In todays world there is no tolerance for that kind of humor in the workplace.
6) You have to admit that out of all the players who have played in the NFL, there has to have been a few that are gay. The law of numbers dictates it. Now comes the question, what if one of the Vikings players in the room when it was said, if it was said, was gay? Still a joke?
7) I am not going to crucify Priefer at this point, nor am I willing to give him a pass. Same goes with Kluwe. In the long run the true story should come out.
