It's a free kick, the defense has to be back 10 yards, I think.

He normally kicks off from the 35. You can use a tee for a free kick.
Well it's not really free, remember what Cromartie did a couple years back?

Once again, a stupid early decision to go for two points costs a team a win. The Packers should have won the game at the end of regulation time 24-23.

Possible, I guess, but not nearly as likely because of free kick rules.

The Cromartie play was a field goal attempt, so you had a bunch of big slow linemen on the field. For a free kick, the defense has to back up 10 yards, so you don't need to block for him ... hence no slow linemen on the field. Walsh could also take a normal kickoff run at it instead of two steps, so the chances are good that even if he misses it, the ball is going through the end zone.

I haven't seen a free kick try in decades, but it's still in the rulebook. It was a smart play by Sherels. If the Green Bay punter hits it five yards shorter, I think you try it.

The only positives I can take from this game is Audie Cole's performance, Toby Geharts performance, the D not giving up a game winning driving, and Ponder not screwing up like he usually does.

I'm really disappointed with our WRs. Ponder took a lot of heat for this piss poor offense but now even when he plays well these fools can't even catch the simplest of passes. Wasted all that money on Jennings so he can drop passes and remain non existent like he has all season. Cordarrelle Patterson can't catch either. (We should have gotten Keenan Allen) Jarius Wright dropping passes as well. Whats going on? This game was ours to win but our offense didnt seem to want it.

Cole was great today. Finally we see a little fire from the MLB spot, I say let him stay starter for the rest of the year and put Erin back on the outside.

Gerhart made himself some money today.

Funny that when Ponder plays well, the WRs suck. I suppose the extreme cold temperature made it tough, but still...

You are assuming the Vikings' dimwit coaches are even aware of this option, and if they are that they would have the balls to do it.

Should have tried it anyway. But we're playing not to lose so you throw a three yarder to Patterson and call it a not-lose. Weee.

Jennings, Patterson, and Wright can all catch. They've proven it already. I'd rather have Patterson over Allen. Wright, too. Both Patterson and Wright have made big plays this year and they'll get better in time, especially if the Vikings don't one-note them.

The problem with this game and all of the games this season is that the Vikings team cannot provide a complete performance across the board. There is always a breakdown somewhere.

Pretty sure it was the Niners. Niners and Rams. I remember being proud of Harbaugh. :D

I guess I'm alone in this. I liked the last play of the game. The two guys we want to have the ball at the end would be Peterson or Patterson. They got it to Patterson with a chance to basically return a kick for a TD against a spread out Green Bay team. Ponder isn't going to be able to toss it all the way to the end zone, so it was the next best thing.

Not alone. Patterson was our only slim chance. Could have put Webb in there for a deep throw and hoped for a defensive pass interference call and a free play, likely in field goal range, but hey, I'm thinking too much. ;)

Exactly! It happens all over, at virtually every position. They're extremely inconsistent.

I liked it too. They tried to spring Patterson and give him a chance to work in the open field. In that situation, I think that play had a better chance to succeed than a Hail Mary.
