Coaching blunder

Post by im4mnvikes »

Why in the world would you kick to Percy after you had just scored to make it a close game. He was a highlight reel when he played for us. That return was a HUGE momentum buster. That is the one time we should have played it safe with the pooch kick to a blocker. :wallbang:

Not the first coaching blunder, my friend.

For this staff, it's just par for the course and should have been expected.

Very true, but this coaching staff continues to invent things that we are amazed to see!!

As soon as I saw that ball in the air I knew Percy would at least take it out to the 50. I wasn't wrong.

Don't worry, he'll look at the tape and get it corrected. If there's one thing this team is good at, it's learning from it's mistakes and making adjustments.

And give them the ball near midfield anyways? 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

 I've said before, the team motto for 2013 should be either, "That's easily correctable." or, "We'll have to look at the film."

Frazier's pressers are the most pathetic, ridiculous, cliche riddled piles of garbage I've ever heard. He says NOTHING!

I think they didn't even realize Harvin was back there. Frazier says they did but I don't believe him. I mean Frazier looks like an idiot either way. If he DID know Harvin was back there and he kicks to him; idiot! He doesn't even know who's back there to receive the kick; idiot!

How bout making a tackle before he gets on your side of the field?
There you go!

But what you're suggesting is crazy talk. It involves the "E" word. *

Don't kick to the first line guys, kick it to about the 15 or 20 like they did right after the half.

Execution? really? We have one of the best ST's in the NFL. We know who PH is, half the teams that played us kicked it AWAY from him. But its was lack of execution? Did you and Fraizer go to the same High School?

Yes, really. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?

I don't know where you got the idea that the Vikings special teams unit is one of the best in the NFL this year either. Their kickoff coverage unit certainly isn't among the best. Only 5 teams have allowed more yardage on kickoff returns this season.

At least you illustrated why I referred to execution as "the E word". Quite a few fans around here don't seem to think it matters at all. The coaches just need to do a better job of pulling the strings on their puppets.

I miss Tice's pressers. I'll always remember his first one as head coach. His only two points: 1. He is moving Kleinsasser back to TE. 2. He will be wearing sweater vests on the sidelines. :)

Does he? On the road? I guess I usually notice Patterson getting few chances because the other kickers do that so much. I guess I considered Walsh pretty weak, at times, when it comes to that. Could be crazy, though. :D

True. However, it seemed like pretty good blocking from what I remember, and he's one of the best in the game at returning kicks. We just shouldn't have kicked to him. People don't try to kick to Patterson for good reason; and when we had Harvin, people did their best to take him out of the return game, as well. It's just smart football.

Also, when Patterson has a good run, do you people give credit to the blocking and athleticism of Patterson, or do you dog the other team for not making the tackle? I'm just curious, because I think Harvin and Seattle just happened to do a good job on that play more so than us just being totally worthless and not being able to execute. Things happen, but in this instance, I think a smarter decision made by the coaches would have helped a lot.

It's also smart football to not concede good field position to the opposing team late in the first half by pooch kicking the ball.

I congratulate my old high school buddy Leslie Frazier for doing such a great coaching job on the return. Patterson's athleticism and the blocking in front of him aren't significant factors. That's just good execution and we know how meaningful execution is...

Hindsight is 20/20. If they kick had been well-covered, I doubt anybody would have even questioned the choice to kick to Harvin.

There are two sides to every play. When a big play occurs, that usually means on that play, one team executed well and the other team didn't execute well. Either that or it means a penalty went unnoticed.

Sorry my friend but there is no hindsight. I felt that way as soon as I saw Harvin in the end zone. Given his history for big plays, chances for a big run back were huge and the fact that we had just scored to make it a close game we should not have taken the chance. Yes, the ST players should have covered better but IF we had not kicked to him there wouldn't even be a post. LOL
