We still have a chance

Post by radar55 »

Unfortunately we had to go and win a meaningless game against Washington.......AGAIN! But, thanks to Tampa and Jax winning this week we are still in the running for the #1 pick next year. Is'nt this pretty much what happened in 2011 when we finished 3-13?

Now I have 2 reasons to hate anything to do with Washington D.C.

Yeah, but now we also have Atlanta and Houston breathing down our necks. Looks like it's going to be a hard fought battle to the bottom. I think the Vikings sit at #4 right now, based on SoS.

The SUCK 10:

Jacksonville 1-8
Tampa Bay 1-8
Atlanta 2-7
Minnesota 2-7
Houston 2-7
Buffalo 3-6
Pittsburgh 3-6
Washington 3-6
Oakland 3-6
NY Giants 3-6

Keep the faith. I think it's a near certainty the Vikings are not winning another one. Hopefully 2-14 will be good enough to be bad enough.

Umm, we already have a thread about this BS thinking. Please don't clog the forum with this anymore.

Seriously. Why is it BS thinking? What good does three or four wins do this team? They go 4-12 or 5-11, what possible good does that do? All it does is assure the Vikings miss out on a potential franchise QB in the draft. Sure, no guarantee that even if you pick first you'll get one, but I'd rather take my chances there.

I've never in my life as a Viking fan (over 40 years) felt this way, but I do this year. This has been a total embarrassment and I don't want to see another season like this. It's time to stop messing around with the QB position and get a real one.

I believe one of the big reasons the Vikings have only been a serious Super Bowl threat a couple of times in the last 30+ years is they always seem to finish in the 7-9 to 9-7 range and have rarely been in position to draft a top QB prospect. 2 years ago, they were there but still thought they had their QB for the next 10 years.

And look at the two times they have been real Super Bowl contenders in the last three decades. 1998 and 2009. It was due to two MVP seasons by Viking QBs.

The SUCK 10:

Jacksonville 1-8 - Need QB
Tampa Bay 1-8 - Might look to upgrade, but Glennon has been solid
Atlanta 2-7 - Have QB
Minnesota 2-7 - Need QB
Houston 2-7 - Have QB
Buffalo 3-6 - Have QB
Pittsburgh 3-6 - Have QB
Washington 3-6 - Have QB
Oakland 3-6 - ?
NY Giants 3-6 - Have QB

Have no fear Ponder thinks he can play @Seattle - Halo

You didn't think they were a real contender in '87? ;)

I understand both attitudes on this. Those who want the Vikes to lose only want it because they ultimately want them to win. However, there's something unsavory about watching people hope their team loses. Perhaps unsavory isn't the right word for it but hoping for losses just seems wrong somehow. I want to see the Vikes win and solve their problems and I don't think those are mutually exclusive goals. Who knows if there's a QB in this draft that will win a Super Bowl someday? Who even knows which one will be the best NFL player? Bridgewater is gaining momentum as the #1 QB in the draft but I sure wouldn't bet on him to be the next Manning, Aikman or Elway and who knows if he will even be the best QB in this class?

Top QBs can be found outside the top 10 picks of the draft and most Super Bowl-winning QBs weren't top 10 picks. In the end, making good choices in the draft and then developing and keeping that talent is more important than where the team drafts. The Vikes don't need to lose to win but they do need to make good choices (a lot of them!).

I root for them to win every week. In the past I have been upset when they lose, but this year I losing is just  for me. I don't really care if they lose because it gives them a chance at picking high on the board. I don't wish for a loss nor do I root for one. I want them to be a winning team and someday win a Super Bowl and if it takes a couple of losing seasons for us to be able to build a contender then I can live with that. I am not happy with it, but I can deal with it.

Next week is Seattle and I will be in front of the TV rooting for this team to win even though I am expecting a butt kicking. :smilevike:

I thought so! :)

I'm guessing majorm did too and just left that team out. They're almost past the 3 decade mark he mentioned anyway.

Sigh... this #@*%# team isn't going to the Super Bowl this year which means it will now be 37 seasons since the last time they even made it to the big game. Back then, I never though I'd still be waiting so many years later. I really thought they were going to get there in both '87 and '98. I sure hope their day is coming soon. I'd like to see them win the Super Bowl at least once in my lifetime!

WE'RE STILL IN THE RUNNING FOR THE PLAYOFFS it's WAY too early to start talking about the #1 pick

The '87 team was a little more, "lighting in a bottle." I didn't think they were a serious Super Bowl contender until they beat the 49ers! Did you?! I sure didn't think they had a shot going into the playoffs. Even after the 44-10 throttling of the Saints, I expected them to get trounced at SF.

That playoff run was so much fun. I remember calling one of my best friends - also a huge Viking fan - right after both those wins. When he answered the phone, I just screamed. Then he screamed. Like the prison break scene in "Raising Arizona." So awesome! As Viking fans, we have not had nearly enough moments like that.

I really feel bad for the fans much younger than me that weren't around for the Tarkenton/Foreman days. They don't even have THOSE memories.

And on the main topic; I know, I know. For every Peyton and Luck, there's a Ryan Leaf. The can't miss who did. And of course you have Marino, Brady and Rodgers. HOFers that every team had at least one shot at and passed on. But I just think the odds are better if you draft high. And it gives you more ammunition for a potential trade.

I just can't get excited about a win for the sake of the win this season. I just can't. It's just been such a disaster and I'm tired of it. I want this team to put the foundation in place for long-term success. And that begins with a franchise QB.

And to get that QB, I feel better drafting the top guy that nearly everyone thinks is a sure thing than trusting the Vikings' braintrust to find a bit of a diamond in the rough with a much later pick. He can still be a flop, but I think the odds are better.

I really want to call my friend and scream again. I really do.
