too bad the trade deadline already passed and he's a free agent after this year....chicagopurple wrote:Uh, anyone consider the fact that JA is surrounded by crappy players?
We should trade him while he still has value, we need like 4-5 new guys in the secondary, 2 DL, at least 1 OL, a QB, etc

Re: What's wrong with JA?
I think JA’s performance has a lot more to do with the fact that opposing OC have figured out they can dink and dunk on our defense at will and score on every drive. If the ball is coming out in under ½ a second even JA isn’t going to get to the QB to take him down.
Ideally this will be incentive to add talent at CB and LB this offseason. They can have the greatest pass rushers in the league and it won’t matter a lick if they cannot defend the underneath stuff on 1st and 2nd down. JA commented on this to some extent, he said they were giving up too much on 2nd down which was a major reason why they were getting eaten alive on 3rd down.

I was getting extremely frustrated with Allen's performance against the Redskins last night. He was recklessly overrunning plays and making little to no effort to seal the edge even though the Redskins were gouging the Vikes defense on the ground. I know he's a pass rusher first but the team can't afford to have their RDE neglect his responsibilities in run defense to the degree Allen did yesterday.

It seems to me that Allen has been doing that for a while now. Don't know what's up with him.Mothman wrote:I was getting extremely frustrated with Allen's performance against the Redskins last night. He's in the last year of his deal, trade deadline gone. They should have traded him after 2011, this team was in rebuild anyways, they wasted that chance.chicagopurple wrote:Uh, anyone consider the fact that JA is surrounded by crappy players?

You're right, it's a not a new development.Thaumaturgist wrote:It seems to me that Allen has been doing that for a while now. Don't know what's up with him.

Since you had mentioned it a while ago, I was looking for it last night. Happened quite a bit. Even Mayock said something about it.Mothman wrote:I was getting extremely frustrated with Allen's performance against the Redskins last night. I didn't get to watch the game but, I get the impression Griffen had a good one. I wonder if/when they will pull the plug on JA? I can't imagine he will be re-signed.

That's my theory (and I've stated it elsewhere, so excuse the redundancy if you've already read it): they let JA walk and free up a significant part of the pie to allocate more equitably throughout the D. I think they re-sign Everson as long as he doesn't get too greedy and unrealistic and have him move back to his natural position on the end.The Breeze wrote:I didn't get to watch the game but, I get the impression Griffen had a good one. If they were to have a chance to draft Clowney they probably would do it. Otherwise I look for them to either draft a LB (Barr) or a QB, depending on who our coach is and what prospects are available.
* Allen was really annoying in this game. He looked to be playing for stats and to hell w/ the team. He even tried to do his sack celebration when Williams had clearly gotten it.

Re: What's wrong with JA?
JA seems to be more about sacks (trying to get them) than anything else these days. He has not even shown up on several game's stat sheets. A lot of unknown LT'S (like the Pukers) have easily handled him whereas in the past he would have "feasted" on them.Mothman wrote: You're right, it's a not a new development.
I really like JA and what he has brought to the team during his tenure here but he will not be worth even trying to re-sign. And for those want-a-be GMs complaining about the Vikes should have tried to trade him, who knows maybe they did

Re: What's wrong with JA?
As the pass rush struggles, so too do the cornerbacks. We saw evidence of this in the 2nd-half of the game vs. Washington. Jared Allen and KWill were constantly putting pressure on RGIII and forcing bad/hurried throws - making our DBs look almost acceptable.
He's had a rough year, and I'm not sure what his issue is. He may have lost a step as time has caught up to him, but at the very least, he doesn't seem to be giving up on plays.

Re: What's wrong with JA?
The lack of run defense won't show up on his stat sheet when he's negotiating a huge FA contract next year. He's worried about his lack of sacks, because it's going to cost him millions if he doesn't step it up. It's the worst possible scenario for the Vikings, and why they should never have paid this chump $14.5M to finish out his contract.
Re: What's wrong with JA?
Soon as he sniffed that sack record he gave up on anything but padding his numbers. And now he's old lost a step has been who can't even do that.

Re: What's wrong with JA?
I think you'll end up being surprised by the modest contract that he's going to wrangle (pun intended). Of course it won't be anything pedestrian, but I don't think he's going to reel in another huge contract when this season is over.Eli wrote:The lack of run defense won't show up on his stat sheet when he's negotiating a huge FA contract next year.
