Should we trade for Freeman?

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
I don't really get it. Freeman would be 3rd on the depth chart at QB for a _long_ time if he comes to Minnesota. His only hope is that Ponder washes out and he starts next year. Which, of course, gives Spielman a reason to not draft a QB early in the draft and the Vikings get to ride this merry-go-round for another couple of years.
Adrian Peterson, kiss your career good-bye.

Well, if Ponder is still hurt, he'd be 2nd, and I like Freeman better than Cassel. Plus, Freeman has more of a future than Cassel. That's my thought anyway.Eli wrote:I don't really get it. Glazer I trust, along with Mortenson. Idk about Florio though.yezzir wrote: Sh!ts about to get real. I hope he comes here. It also gives Spielman another route to escape Ponder.

Freeman? Really? At least Cassel has had 2 good seasons under his belt, Freeman has had only 1 good season (2010). He might have a strong arm, but his accuracy is horrible and he throws a lot of INT's. And he might be a head case too? I'm all for ending the Ponder era, but I was hoping for something better than Freeman. I just don't get it.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
If we get Freeman tonight, he'll be our starter next year. That's assuming Cassel plays OK. If Cassel falls on his face these next few weeks, we would start Freeman and start his era as a Viking within the next 4-5 games.Eli wrote:I don't really get it. Ok, than who? Drafting a Qb in this years class would require another 2-3 year building process. If we drafted a QB in the 1st round, I would trade AD for what we could get for him.Reignman wrote:Freeman? Really? Bringing in Freeman gives us a solid QB who was statistically elite for 2 years, (killed us at home by the way), while at the same time not wasting AD's prime years.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
The best thing about having Freeman on the roster is that if he's a backup, he can't kill the Vikings once every year or two like he has.
If there's one team he's really torched it's ours. Both times the Vikes went into that game expecting a win, too.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
My feeling is that the Vikings front office just don't have the sorts of people that are good at finding quarterbacks, even late round steals. They never manage to suck enough to draft high enough to where it's a no-brainer, so they get to overthinking the risks/rewards and they end up with a backup quarterback being groomed as a starter. The teams that really commit to losing generally end up in position to get the quarterbacks that are really worth drafting in the first round. The Vikes just don't have that commitment it takes to losing hard enough.yezzir wrote: Ok, than who? Drafting a Qb in this years class would require another 2-3 year building process. That's why they always do better signing another team's problem away. Freeman is a very good risk to take at this point, as it looks like Tampa's coaching staff were at least as much a problem as he was. Besides, you never heard about any of these problems in his first couple years. Even if the guy can't cut it as a starter, it doesn't really look like Christian Ponder is going to be signed after his rookie contract ends, and he's not going to want to sit behind Matt Cassel for 3 years. We all learned this already with T-Jack.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Well the Vikings turn them into 2-3 year projects because we're slow like that. We tend to do things the way teams did them back in the 90's. If our team were a person, he'd be required to wear one of those padded helmets everywhere, and he'd be riding the short bus. Most other teams seem to be getting pretty good production out of their rookie QB's year 1. If anything, take Freeman as an insurance policy, but I'd still draft a QB in the first round. I don't know how bad we'll finish but Bridgewater is probably out of the question. Jacksonville is probably already negotiating with him, so I'd go after McCarron.yezzir wrote: Ok, than who? Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Freeman is coming to MN, I'd lay wager on it right now. And I for one believe that he would be a massive upgrade over Ponder and a slight to possibly huge upgrade over Cassel. 12 months ago he was one of the bright young stars in the league, I believe that a large part of his decline is due to poor coaching. He has the tools which is more than we can say for Ponder. Bring him in, what do we have to lose really?
Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Another two or three years of futility waiting for a QB with limited talent (and with this one, some serious baggage) to break through. Another two or three years of Adrian Peterson's career lost.TheFoxInDetox wrote:Bring him in, what do we have to lose really?

Im gathering that you would support Freeman coming here. We can't keep killing off years of AD's prime years like you said.Eli wrote: Another two or three years of futility waiting for a QB with limited talent (and with this one, some serious baggage) to break through. One thing I don't quite understand is this sudden assumption among NFL fans that Freeman is a bad guy. Maybe more details will emerge soon, but I'm pretty sure he isn't a diva with major issues.
I've also heard that Fraizer was BIG on Freeman the year he was drafted.
