Any new news on Winfield? Have the Vikings made contact with him at all?

I think it probably boils down to money. If Winfield still wanted to play I think he could easily find a job somewhere but he won't be getting a big contract. Not making Seattle's final cut doesn't help matters. I can't blame him for choosing to retire, at 36 years old it's probably not worth it unless you're making a couple million. If he really wants a ring, he'll catch on with a contender in a few weeks once teams start losing guys to injuries.

I'm an admitted Winfield fan, but I really think he would have been a big help today at least in stopping the run, even if he might be older and slower

I agree (On both counts: Being guilty of being a Winfield fan, and I believe Bush would not have had as easy of a time of it today if Winfield was out there)

I would like to see him signed but I am not sure that there were many problems with the secondary. Robinson looked decent and I dont remember too many missed tackles.

I think you're right, but Winfield was almost like an extra Linebacker out there. That is where we could have used the help...

Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports "retired" CB Antoine Winfield is working out in Houston and considering a return to "the right situation."

Winfield never filed his retirement papers after he announced his retirement. He spent the summer with the Seahawks, but Seattle was preparing to release the 36-year-old at final cuts before he hung up the cleats. The Vikings and Redskins hotly pursued Winfield along with Seattle, but those two teams are a combined 1-5. Those wouldn't seem to be ideal situations for Winfield. Contenders that could use an upgrade at slot corner are the Ravens and Texans.

Antoine Winfield reportedly will consider NFL return
When Antoine Winfield decided to hang up the spikes after being released by the Seattle Seahawks during final cuts, the cornerback's agent wisely held off on filing the required retirement paperwork.

The 14-year veteran is now working out in Houston and will consider a return to the NFL if he finds "the right situation," reports ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Although logic dictates a player of Winfield's stature would place a high priority on joining a contender, a reunion with the Minnesota Vikings appears to be the most likely scenario.

"Antoine definitely appreciates coach (Leslie Frazier), and some of his best friends in life play on that team right now," agent Ashanti Webb told Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press two weeks ago. "He was there for basically a decade, so Minnesota will always hold a special place in his heart. But I haven't heard anything substantive from them to bring back to Antoine."

The inference is clear: Winfield does indeed have interest in returning to Minnesota if the feeling is mutual.

Asked Wednesday if Winfield might be a possibility, general manager Rick Spielman replied, "I can't rule (out) anything. You never know."

Three members of the Vikings' cornerbacks Chris Cook (groin), Jamarca Sanford (hamstring) and A.J. Jefferson (ankle) missed practice Thursday. Something tells us the wheels might already be in motion for Winfield to join the team in London.

Great. .500 year at best. Sign 30 year old receiver, 30 year old linebacker, bring back 34 year old corner. Let's get this rebuild in gear! :wallbang:

You don't like the idea because our younger guys' play has been so stellar? :P

It's not a long term solution, no, but it might keep us from being embarrassed quite so badly...

No kidding. Someone posted Josh Robinson's stats the other day and they were unreal. Something like 32 of 33 passes in his coverage were completed. Not to mention the fact that Winfield is the best tackling corner in the history of the NFL. He would be a huge upgrade for our defense.
