Re: Winfield released
I generally agree with what Demi is trying to say but this is Winfield. Dude played at a high level last year and could help us out. Robinson could learn under this dude for another year as he doesn't quite seem ready.

Agreed. I doubt anyone trades for him. Feeling pretty good that he'll be back in purple, as long as no bitterness lingers from his oddly handled departure.

I'm not sure how this works but won't he have to go through waivers? Some CB needy teams who could use him.

Re: Winfield released
Pure speculation but does he retire so he can clean a waiver process just to pick who he wants to go play for?

Re: Winfield released
Maybe Frasier n company can sweet talk him for one more season? That's too bad. He was a great Viking for a long time.
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

At his age I think it's best personally just to ride off into the sunset. Guy should have enough bank to live the rest of his life comfortably, so why put himself through it all. I would do the same if I was him.

Re: Winfield released
It makes me wonder if he was still on the Vikings would he have retired? I'm guessing he would have probably made the team so perhaps he'd not retire?

It is funny that he gets to keep the million dollar signing bonus from Seattle.

$500K signing bonus plus $500K guaranteed of $1M salary. Would have been another $500K roster bonus.DarthBrooks wrote:It is funny that he gets to keep the million dollar signing bonus from Seattle.
Re: Winfield released
I think he decided if he cannot make it with a team on the cusp of greatness, it's time to retire. He's 36 so it's no big surprise. The Vikings made the decision to cut him and go younger. They should be excited about their prospects, with or without him. I personally was disappointed in how his tenure ended with the Vikings, but that was in the eyes of a fan recognizing tremendous dedication in a once great player. The Seahawks decision vindicates the business reality that a team cannot keep an aging player of tremendous character when the football side is fading.
