No plans to work CP with 1st team

Post by PurpleHalo »

The Vikings said today, they don't plan on running him with the 1st team offense. I don't see why, Ponder needs reps with him in real game time. And lets face it, Simpson is a stiff, has little to offer. Imo Patterson is more useful than Simpson. When you come off a season so bad you had to accept a pay cut to stay, maybe he could try harder. The play on the Ponder INT, he completely gave up, more effort like that he should be cut. Play the young guy with juice, and effort, not guys who give up on plays.

While he did make a positive splash in the first game we cant go off the deep end and expect him to be a star right away. He's still a rookie and will have to earn the starting position like every other rookie has under Frazier. If he keeps playing the way he does he will be starting game 1 of the regular season.

I am sure they will give him more reps .. this could be false info for other
teams as well.

It's not necessarily an off the deep end reaction. And I understand everyone has to earn it, I just don't get how Simpson has earned the chance to automatically be listed as the x receiver.
I do hope it's a smoke screen of some sort, to prevent CP from getting too high on himself.

Some of ya'll just need to let the coaches coach and make their decisions. I don't get how you can have such a strong judgement without having the real insight of gameplan/development/film study that these coaches are professionals at.

Patterson is not high on the depth chart at WR, so it's not surprising to see that he isn't slated to work with the first team in the limited amount of time that the first team will play in this next game. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he does play a couple of downs with them as a sub for someone who gets winded.

Everyone needs to have patience with Patterson. The last thing the Vikings need is to put him into the starting lineup, have him catch only a few passes, and then have the press and fans wringing their hands about how he isn't producing.

I think I'm just nervous they will hand Simpson a starting gig, full of talent but no try. But looking back, Moss didn,t start for this team til later in 98, even after his torrid start. Not saying CP is Moss, but I'd like almost anyone starting over Simpson.

I thought I was going to read why there were no plans to work Christian Ponder with the 1st team... Yikes!

the kid had 4 catches for over 50 yds, and over 100 all purpose yards in ONE half. why wouldn't he start? simpson is a bum, plain and simple. if they want to bring patterson off the bench, they better bring him off a lot because the passing game needs all the help it can get.

Because it's 1 preseason game.

And like it or not, Simpson is Ponder apparent #1 for now; because he's most comfortable with him. For now. I see that easily changing mid season when Simpson sucks again.

The one he would have had to grab it over the defender? Maybe catchable, and he tried. Simpson woulda been halfway back to the huddle.

Actually, that's probably one catch Simpson does make.

Coaches are stubborn. We've been over this. AD wasn't even starting despite obviously being a better talent than Chester. Same is happening at corner and defensive tackle. Nothing to see here.
