Simpson healthy, ready for second chance

Post by Mothman »

Jerome Simpson certainly seems to have a good attitude going into this season:

Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson spent his Monday morning running sprints and catching passes alongside All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr.
In other words, Simpson's 2013 season is off to a promising start.

“I wanted to work with one of the greats,” Simpson said. “I got an opportunity to come down here and work with him so I wanted to take full advantage of it.”
“I feel great,” he said. “My body is 100 percent. I’m just ready to go play ball.”

The Vikings signed Simpson to a one-year deal this offseason after trading Percy Harvin to Seattle. Simpson said he never worried that the Vikings didn’t want him back after last season, but he knows he has a lot to prove.

“They’re going to count on me and I’m going to make them proud,” he said. “It’s time for me to prove myself and show my worth. I’m ready to do that.”

LOL! You needed a nickname for Wright...

I'm curious about it too. We may see a real duel for playing time develop between Simpson and Petterson, which would only be good for the team (assuming the competition is because they're both playing well and deserve playing time!).

If starters like Jennings and Rudolph play up to expectations and enough of these other players (Simpson, Patterson, Carlson, Wright, etc.) step up, Musgrave could find himself with a lot of great options to give Ponder and keep defenses off-balance. At that point, it might just become a question of protecting Ponder long enough to deliver the ball.
I also wanna see who takes that 5th WR. I think we've seen enough of Burton and he doesn't play enough snaps to justify keeping him for his blocking. I really like Rodney Smith and Pelissero and others seem high on Summers, plus there's Webb.
I think Burton would really have to take his game to another level to justify a roster spot again. I'm one of those fans that's excited Summers potential and Webb obviously has potential too if he can get the position down. The battle for that spot should be interesting, to say the least. There are quite a few players who may prove worth keeping. I suspect the coaches will have a difficult decision to make when it's time to make roster cuts.

I wish the Vikings were the subject of Hard Knocks this summer. That would be fun to watch!

LOL! Somehow, I don't think Wright would be too thrilled with that. :)
