The guy reminds me of Clay Matthews in speed and ability to
pursue the ball.

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
I'm glad they're giving him a chance to compete, despite his medical history. Mauti would've been 1st -2nd round talent if healthy. That would be a steal if he could play and stay healthy. I think can he do it. We have a great team physician in Eric Sugarman, and I'm sure he and the medical staff are trying their best to make sure Mauti is 100% before the season begins.

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
I listened to Mauti Radio interview and it sounds like Vikings doctors looked at Mauti
at the combine and examined his medical history.. It would be great if this guy became
an All Pro for us and we got in what round 6 or 7

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Of course they did. And then they selected him in the 7th round. Not the 1st or 4th or 6th round. It doesn't mean they gave him a clean bill of health. Only that they thought he had enough of a chance of coming back from his injuries that it was worth spending a 7th round pick on him.jackal wrote:I listened to Mauti Radio interview and it sounds like Vikings doctors looked at Mauti

Mauti is not a "diamond in the rough". He's shown what he can do, and if he were healthy he'd be able to step into the starting lineup of many teams. A "diamond in the rough" is someone like Cordarrelle Patterson. You know that if you can polish him some, he'll be spectacular.

i disagree Micheal Mauti is even more a diamond in round seven. The guy if healthy was given a first day draft rating. about the same as
Patterson by many experts rankings. If he stays healthy and works out that is an awesome grab. Patterson is supposed to be a first starter
and NFL stud; especially with Vikings moving up into the first round to get him like that

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Hey did you hear that Ponder is a bottom 3 QB?
Just thought I'd mention it.
Seriously though injuries seem to be the key with a lot of our players this year. Take a look at the player threads and it seems like there are a lot of injury question marks with most of them. Can Mauti be great? Yep, but so can Bishop and Cook and Paterson and Jensen etc etc. I just want our guys to stay healthy. If so look out!

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Yeah, the Vikings apparently decided to roll the dice this year with respect to players coming off of injuries. I wonder if Adrian Peterson's comeback had anything to do with their confidence. Maybe they think Eric Sugarman can work miracles with anyone.
Michael Mauti (very little invested, so why not?)
Greg Childs (nothing to lose by seeing if he'll play again)
Desmond Bishop (desperate times at LB call for some risk)
John Carlson (basically stuck with his contract, so not much to lose)
Jerome Simpson (a moderate bet, hoping his back injury was a freak thing)
Greg Jennings (they went all in on this one)
All in all, probably some good bets here when compared with the potentially high returns. Mauti and Childs are the biggest question marks, but the Vikings aren't counting on them. I think Bishop is the next biggest question, but the Vikings don't have a huge sum invested in him, either. I'm not too worried about either Carlson or Simpson. The biggest concern with Jenning is both the amount of money that they're betting and how much they'll be counting on him in a WR corps without a lot of talent.

And it doesn't stop there. Both Ponder and Cook are players in very important positions (QB and CB) and they have injury questions, too.Eli wrote:Yeah, the Vikings apparently decided to roll the dice this year with respect to players coming off of injuries. True, Cook has always been injury prone, but I'm not aware of any that he's currently dealing with.
Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Jennings and Peterson have good
Records when it comes to health
And performance in this league.
Simpson, Childs, Carlson not so
Much.. Carlson appears to be one
Of the worst FA pickups in the last
Decade

Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Ponder had an injury history with the Seminoles. Then as a rookie for the Vikings he was knocked out of action twice, with the last injury keeping him out for the season. Last year Ponder couldn't play in the playoff game (which I think hurt the team's chances to win) because of an injury. So yes, Ponder remaining healthy is a concern for the team, especially because he is the starting QB.Eli wrote: Ponder??

Maybe the Vikings would be better off with our new back up anyways.Ponder had an injury history with the Seminoles. We will see this season how he plays and if he can stay healthy when it
counts.

I believe the Vikings will be better off with Ponder over Cassel. That's one of the reasons why I'm hoping Ponder will stay healthy.jackal wrote: Maybe the Vikings would be better off with our new back up anyways.

Back to Mauti, while I agree the Vikings are tossing dice on some players regarding their injury history, I'm looking forward to seeing what Mauti can do. If nothing else, a healthy Mauti brings competition to the MLB position, which I think the team presently needs. Plus Mauti is young. If he actually pans out talent-wise and can stay healthy, that could be big for the team.
Re: Micheal Mauti (our diamond in the rough)
Most seventh round picks never amount to anything in the NFL.. maybe make the
team for a season or two, or the practice squad. That's about it for the majority
of seventh round guys.
Hoping Mauti becomes the stud he is capable of being for us.
