Most compelling teams: 2010 Vikings
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.” --- Bill Shankly

I suppose "compelling" is one word for it. "Excruciating" is another...

At least it cost Childress his job... Silver Lining in an otherwise extreme exercise in frustration.

I have some other words that I used during that season...Mothman wrote:I suppose "compelling" is one word for it. "Excruciating" is another...

No, it's a good headline. Compelling, as in "interesting".
To anyone who wasn't a fan who experienced the monumental letdown of 2010, it has to be a very interesting team. Their collapse from being a few plays from the Super Bowl the prior year was epic. How does that even happen? It was a classic Minnesota Soap Opera, on and off the field, from the first day of training camp until the last miserable play.

I always believed the Vikings beat the Eagles in the last game because the team felt relaxed, even with Joe Webb starting at QB. Childress and the drama was gone. They had a weight lifted from their shoulders.

Well, I don't think $13 million...or whatever the heck it was...is just a "little more" compared to his career earnings. Not sure what kind of money he made previous to that, but that's a good chunk of money for a guy in his early forties who happens to have a family. Being a millionaire is awesome, but I'm sure he was far from feeling like "he had all the money he could possibly want." Other than that though, I don't think he wanted to go out like that. Who does? No one does, especially not Mr. "Ego" Brett Favre, as some like to suggest. We should have been much better than we were. Things happen. But it's not like Favre KNEW things were going to go down like that when he decided to come back. He was thinking Super Bowl, money, competitive Sundays, etc. He just loved the game, but I'm sure the money made him more okay with coming back.Jeffbleedspurple wrote:When you already got all the money you could possibly want it's still beyond me why he put himself through all that for a mere little more.

Exactly. The Vikings stroked Favre like you tickle your dog's belly. I guarantee his hind leg was going a mile a minute while those guys were talking him back onto the team. It was probably about as difficult as engaging Chris Kluwe in a conversation about Vulcan mind-melding.

That was hilarious! "What are the Bears doing here?", asks Favre.
Childress lying to the media about Moss....Moss conducting a question answer session with himself....Favre breaking down in tears explaining penis-gate to his teammates.....Chili gets the axe....and the roof collapses on the Humpty Dome.
That's a about as close to perfect (in the wrong direction) as it gets.

Don't forget, the Packers won the Super Bowl that year too

I really don't have any problems with an NFC North team winning the superbowl....unless they beat the Vikes in the playoffs or something. But even then I wouldn't root against a team from the division in the superbowl.PurpleMustReign wrote:

I was so happy that the Chili era was mercifully over that I didn't care about the Pack winning the Super Bowl. And I'm definitely no Packer fan.The Breeze wrote: I really don't have any problems with an NFC North team winning the superbowl....unless they beat the Vikes in the playoffs or something.
