The more I watch of this guy, the more I like. I hope hes in at least 1 down every series once he gets the swing of things. Will improve both he and Kwill.

Floyd will be a good player, not happy you guys got him but not suprised, once he got past 15 I just had a bad feeling that the Bears or the Vikes would land him.

I just hope they don't try to fatten him up and make him something he's not.dead_poet wrote:Serious dude. Ready to work. Chip on his shoulder. I like it.

Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
I Highly doubt it. It sounds like they will either let him start opposite K Will (which I think they should do) or they will rotate him in the game in place of K Will, with the assertion that he takes over the three technique spot next year permanently.Demi wrote: I just hope they don't try to fatten him up and make him something he's not.
A Randy Moss fan for life. A Kevin Williams fan for life.

Hey I have no idea why y'all think Demi is deputy downer around here.. there are ALOT of voices that are much more negative and less realistic than Demi's.Boon wrote:

I am hoping Floyd is huge inside force for us ... If you watch Offenses and QB's they try and shove Allen
and Brian Robison out and wide if Floyd has a JJ Watt Effect up the middle our sack count and run defense
should fierce..

I guess his stock really soared. And then I guess it must have really tanked. All in a six week period, if it ever soared to begin with. Whatever. It's Mel Kiper, the original Mr. Irrelevant. His stock is soaring. Has legit potential to go No. 1, although a handful of names are in play.

Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
shariff is more of a pass rusher than a run stopper. Xavier Rhodes is better in man than in zone. will be interesting too see how they adjust and if the Vikings will tweak the defense based on there skill set.RandallioCobb18 wrote:Floyd will be a good player, not happy you guys got him but not suprised, once he got past 15 I just had a bad feeling that the Bears or the Vikes would land him.

Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
Is this true? I thought Floyd was more of a run stopper. If he's a pass rusher, then his total sack count of 4.5 with Florida is somewhat worrisome.hibbingviking wrote:shariff is more of a pass rusher than a run stopper.
Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
After reviewing Gators film, Mayock labeled Floyd the "most explosive defensive tackle" in this draft. NFL Films guru Greg Cosell agreed, calling Floyd "without question" the draft's No. 1 player on tape. Said Mayock, "...what I saw on tape from Sharrif Floyd, the first tape I watched on him was Florida State, and I thought he dominated the game. What is most important about this kid is his explosion. He reminds me, and I'm not going to say he's ever going to be Warren Sapp, but it's that type of first step explosion," Mayock said of Floyd. "He can get an edge as a pass rusher. He's strong enough to push the pocket. He's stout against the run, and he can run sideline to sideline."Purple Domination wrote: Is this true? I thought Floyd was more of a run stopper. I believe he left as a junior as well. 4.5 sacks as a junior isn't piddly. It's not other-worldly, but his tape is solid. Also consider he was commanding double-teams a lot. He has tremendous mobility for his size. 12 TFL and two sacks in the Sugar Bowl.
I respect Mayock and Cosell. I'm not going to get too hung up on the 4.5 sacks. It'll be interesting to watch him if he's not getting double-teamed in the preseason (and reading accounts from the beat guys during camp).

Yeah, just like the guys talking about Cook's interceptions people will talk about sacks as the only thing that matters for a defensive lineman.dead_poet wrote:

It's far more important that they have to double team him in which he has very little chance to sack the quarter back on his own. However, that can mean Jared allen, Robison, or Everson Griffen get a lot more 1 on 1 time and that's huge for us. On passing downs they might have him AND kwill out there, that could cause a lot of problems as well for an offense.
I expect his run defense will be solid, and if left one on one expect him to get pressure up the middle and collapse the pocket a lot...

Do you mean they aren't the only thing that matters?

Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
Floyd is going to benefit from playing in one spot, and if the Vikes are smart about bringing him along they'll allow him to learn and play behind Kevin Williams while getting him some snaps in obvious pass rushing situations where they can pair the two up. When Floyd was in college he was moved all over the defensive line. The fact that he remained disruptive and effective doing that is a testament to the guy's athleticism, but I have no doubt that focusing him on a particular position is going to pay big if he's allowed to develop, and given the composition of the defensive line right now, he should be able to do that.

Re: DT Sharrif Floyd
Sure he can learn while hes playing he should be starting DAY 1 next to Kevin Williams, nothing teaches you more than playing, he isnt a quarterback, I expect him to be starting day 1 on the other side of K will, along with Xavier on the other side of Cook.VikingLord wrote:Floyd is going to benefit from playing in one spot, and if the Vikes are smart about bringing him along they'll allow him to learn and play behind Kevin Williams while getting him some snaps in obvious pass rushing situations where they can pair the two up. The term fan comes from FANatic or fanatical.
