"There's no denying the talent that you see on tape," Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said. "This guy came from juco and shows up before the season starts at Tennessee, learns the offense as much as he can, and does what he does on tape. I talked to a lot of other SEC coaches, and they thought he was maybe the best athlete in the SEC.
"He's a great kid, and he's a hard worker. So if you have those two things going for you, and he's willing to put in the work, we expect him to develop into a player."
And here's a good quote from Patterson:
Patterson acknowledges he has plenty to do refining his route running and reading coverages.
"The first thing I'm going to do is get into that playbook and start learning different covers, study the quarterback and become a receiver," he said.
Patterson comes off as being a decent kid who is truly honored to be a Viking.
Here's something interesting from Spielman:

grades?? since when do those matter for athletes? anyhow, i hope this kid starts and we truly get to decide ponder's fate after this season, he will have weapons now.
Dan Marino scored a 15 on his Wonderlic , Ryan Leaf scored a 27, Matt Leinart a 35, Drew Henson a 42, Randall Cunningham a 15, Terry Bradshaw a 15, Jim Kelly a 15 hmmm Seems odd, I guess you do not have to have a high Wonderlic score to be a good football player and visa-versa
Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!
Best to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool rather than open it and remove all doubt.
Haters have to hate Of course you know more than the coaches in the SEC and the general manager and most all of the talking heads.

Players like Patterson make it a whole lot easier to find quarterbacks because they take double coverage and they turn next to nothing into something.
Since the quarterback position tends to be one of the hardest to fill as well as costliest, having guys like Patterson and Peterson really do a lot to make it cheaper and easier to find someone who can run the system. The pick makes a lot of sense, even if they gave up a lot to get it (even then, most of the guys I was hoping would fall to the Vikings in the second and third were gone before they would have picked anyway).
Wide receiver is a position that doesn't require as much IQ as it requires natural timing and athleticism. They don't make many decisions because if you're thinking too much about what you're doing you'll probably botch up the catch. It's about muscle memory and reaction times. Doesn't mean that smart guys are incapable of playing the position, but it's not as much of a necessity as it is with other position where you ARE relied upon to make the system work.
All of you people hating on CP don't seem to comprehend that he was an absolute BEAST for us last season against SEC caliber defenses. He nearly beat Georgia, the SEC East champions, single handedly. He's an absolute athletic freak. And for all of you who doubt the quality of competition he faced, go look at the draft. The SEC, especially defensive players in recent years, dominate the NFL. Why do you think our conference has won the last seven consecutive national championships? And even on the worst team we had in school history, CP was one of the top players in the top conference this year. Yall can all eat humble pie when you go on NFL.com and buy the Cordarrelle Patterson jersey next year...And as far as the IQ and maturity stuff goes, our coach at UT last year was an absolute, negligent doofus. Derek Dooley lost his job for a reason. Give CP Leslie Frazier and he will be straightened out in days if not hours...Go Vols and skol
