Re: How long have you been a "REAL" Viking fan?
Since the start, 1961. I was always fascinated with Vikings (Real ones), who supposedly are my ancestors. So when the new franchise came into being and called themselves the VIKINGS, I was hooked and jumped ship from the Rams, my Dad's favorite team. I was 9 years old and I don't think my Dad ever forgave me.
Seen ALL the heartbreak losses and I just don't know if I could live thru the stress of seeing them in a 5th Super Bowl but I'd like to give it a try!

Don't pick a fight with an old Viking. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Mid-80's maybe, when I was around 6 years old. Not going to lie, I liked the Vikings because of the uniforms. I thought they had comets on the side of their helmets.

I have a photo of myself as a baby, with a Viking pennant over my crib. It was 1973. That is 40 years of misery, folks!

September 28, 1969. Dad took me to old Met Stadium.
Vikings 52, Colts 14.
Joe Kapp ... 7 TD passes to tie the NFL record.
In my 9-year-old mind, I was pretty sure all Vikings games would be like that.
Oh, the naivety.

Go ahead. I dare you.

1972. I was eight. First year I really paid attention to pro football. I liked the horns on the helmet and I liked that little guy with the No. 10 running around the field like a maniac. I've been hooked ever since.

about as long as i can remember, but i didn't really start watching football regularly until the early 90's when i was between 8-10, missed a few years 04-08 when i was in the Navy. When the vikings win the super bowl i will celebrate, i typically don't get too excitable during games but i would probably get a bit out of control

Watched my first game in 2001 When I was 10. Have not missed a game since. I have a nice streak going!
When the Vikes win the superbowl I will go crazy in a good way and if they lose the superbowl I will go crazy in a bad way. haha

I guess I dont know what a real Vikings fan as opposed to a ersatz fan ? But I have lived and died with every Vikings win and loss since 1976 and have made the pilgrimage to Minnesota at least 5 times and that includes the playoff thrashing of the Cowboys in 09/10 .
LETS GO VIKINGS !

Earl Campbell made me forget for a couple of years while I dug for oil, but roughly, since '73 I'd say!

So that's what will set off the zombie apocalypse. Viking fans rising from the grave to celebrate a Viking SB victory and turning cannibal do to a shortage of chicken wings.Eli wrote: Man, am I going to raise HELL!!! Some of us are getting a bit long in the tooth. I remember when Seattle made it to the Super Bowl a few years ago. A guys wife took his ashes to the game. Hope that doesn't happen to us. Fran Tarkenton turned 73 in March. I'd sure like to see this team win a super bowl before he passes. Tark was and still is my favorite football player.

I became a real fan in 1994. I have been casual fan since the 70s. But during that time (late 1970s) I also like the LA Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Oakland Raiders. In the 90s I stopped trying to keep track of 4 and 5 teams, so I became a more devoted Vikings fan. Been on the ride since. Winning season or losing season, I am a Viking fan for life.

I have been a casual fan my entire life, but I really started watching during college, which started luckily enough with the drafting of Adrian Peterson. I have seen about 90-95% of the games since then and my football knowledge and grown at an exponential rate.
