In a roundabout way, it may have helped. He doesn't have the normal wear and tear of the time he has spent in the league, and he's been around long enough to pick up running traits to make a transition as opposed to doing it when he was first drafted.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.
