Vikings offered Wallace more money than Miami?
According to Chris Wesseling at NFL.com, Mike Wallace's father is claiming that the Vikings actually offered him more money than the $60M, ($27M guaranteed) that he ended up signing for with the Dolphins. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100000 ... t-dad-says
Personally, I have my doubts. So why would Mike Wallace Sr say it? Well, I could only speculate, and I really have no evidence with which to do so. Maybe he was lying in an attempt to help promote his son, maybe he made an honest mistake based on a miscommunication he'd had, maybe Wesseling made it all up. I have no idea. The issue isn't so much why he said it, (if in fact he did), but whether or not it's true.
So what do you all think? Did the Vikings really offer him that much?

This signature predicted the great 2014 - 2025 Vikings dynasty!
Re: Vikings offered Wallace more money than Miami?
Every report was the Vikings and Dolphins where the two teams going after him. Only chance we had was overpaying, and considering what we paid for Jennings I don't find it hard to believe we offered him more at all.
I doubt his dad is just making it up. Vikings probably made him a huge offer, but not huge enough to overcome playing in Miami over Minnesota.

Minnesota never gets any love until some of these fools actually go to Minnesota and end up liking it.

Nothing we didn't already know about the opinions of NFL players regarding the talents of Christian Ponder and the current state of the Vikings offense. Just another confirmation. Run first? Run away.

Regarding this thread's central question: I doubt the Vikings offered Wallace more money than Miami although there may have been talk of more money. For what it's worth, Tom Pelissero reported:

There were also reports before Wallace was signed that the Dolphins thought the Vikings might offer as much as $13 million per year so maybe that idea got conflated with the idea of an actual offer. Who knows what might have gone on behind the scenes.Sources told 1500ESPN.com earlier this month the Vikings did contact Wallace shortly after the NFL's negotiating period began on March 9. But it isn't believed they made a formal offer before the Dolphins locked up Wallace less than an hour after free agency began.

Somehow I can't imagine the Vikings let desperation become a factor. We're too well run as an organisation, panic free.Demi wrote:Every report was the Vikings and Dolphins where the two teams going after him. It's all Ponder's fault. Fer sure.

Well according to PFT the Dolphins signed Wallace within the first 30 minutes of free agency. Don't have any idea how the Vikings would have been able to even make a formal offer in that time frame.Mothman wrote:The NFL.com article doesn't even mention Ponder or the Vikings offensive approach as factors in Wallace's decision. It talks about his desire to go to a warm weather team (as does the Miami Herald article linked to in the NFL.com piece).

And really, who cares? It just shows that Wallace liked what he saw in Miami better than what he saw in Minnesota.
For those of you who think it was because of Ponder, you are absolutely fooling yourself. We have the best RB in the NFL, and if someone is really concerne about who else is on their team, I would think that AD would be as high on other player's lists of players to play with than any other player in the NFL right now.
And if it DID have something to do with Ponder, then "F" Wallace because he isn't much of a team player then.
Who do the Dolphins have for their QB anyway. Tannehill? What exactly did he do last season?

I agree and once again one of the usual board's complainers making something up to bash Ponder, really gets so oldPurpleMustReign wrote:

Do not mistake KINDNESS for WEAKNESS!

south beach is terrific. lousy team however. Jennings is a better route runner anyways.

Also notice how Vikings fans whine more about the media than any other fans. This wasn't a media myth, it was a comment by the players father. But once gain, let's blame that evil media!According to media myths Donald Driver chose retirement over playing for the Vikings and now Mike Wallace turned down more money to play anywhere but here.

That's because the media is putting it out there as the truth. Just look at the headlines for every story that talks about it. About the same as the name of this thread, only they don't use the question mark. Like I said, not sure how they did it in 30 minutes or less.Demi wrote: Also notice how Vikings fans whine more about the media than any other fans.
