Vikes paid $9Million a year for the Packers 3RD best WR! :-)
Jordy and Cobb at this point were #1 and #2 stat wise and talent wise at this point in his career.

When healthy I think he's better then either of them. Definitely Cobb!

18 Million guaranteed bud. Just have fun watching him tear your green bay packers defense up or what they call defense over there lol...
The term fan comes from FANatic or fanatical.

Regardless of the likely troll nature of this post, we must remain positive and have faith in our front office for actively pursuing and ultimately acquiring one of the best receivers in the game. I take my hat off to the organisation, they obviously feel he can dramatically improve out depth at WR and I would have to agree, providing injuries don't intervene.clones2 wrote:Jordy and Cobb at this point were #1 and #2 stat wise and talent wise at this point in his career.
Luring a player away from a division rival is never easy, hopefully it pays dividends.

It was only a matter of time until the Pack had to let one of their 4 WRs go. Luckily, for us, it was Greg Jennings... and hes wearing purple. LOVE IT. SKOL

Sorry - this is not a troll post. Im a Vikings fan. So I am not surprised they would OVERPAY for a 30 year old, injury prone receiver, on the tailing end of his career.
Randall Cobb caught 80 of 104 passes thrown his way last year for almost 1000 yards and 8 touchdowns... He is TWENTY TWO with tons of talent.
Jordy Nelson has 2000 yards receiving the past 2 years....
Jennings is a solid - role playing veteran.... But the #7 paid Wide Receiver in the NFL?!?!?!? Are you kidding me?

Not buying Cobb and Nelson as better than Jennings, of the 3 I'm most happy with Greg and the one I think could most likely do well in our offense. He is the most polished, experienced, and closest to a #1 WR out of that bunch. Cobb and Nelson more benefit from Jennings and Rodgers imo and would not do great in our system.clones2 wrote:Sorry - this is not a troll post. Im a Vikings fan. For such a pass happy offense with a top 5 QB I don't think getting 1000 yards is that big of a deal and if we wanted a young WR with upside we could just draft one, which I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I wouldn't get caught up in the "#7 highest paid" wr hoopla, every fresh signing is going to be a high one, the fact that Harvin and Wallace both got more money should actually show you this deal wasn't that much for the current price / time period. Like when Jared Allen got his new contract he was the highest paid defensive player I think, now there are a number of guys with bigger contracts to play out, just how it works.

13 years into Jerry Rice's career, Rice had a season similar to Jennings last year in Green Bay. The following year he was right back at it having one of his better seasons in his career. Jennings will do just fine and will be the WR leader we have not had since Cris Carter.

I had this exact same thought about CC and Jennings.bigskyeric wrote:13 years into Jerry Rice's career, Rice had a season similar to Jennings last year in Green Bay. Don't forget a healthy Greg Jennings can shred defences and was one of the main reason for the packers 2010 super bowl run. I'd be face palming is we got any other WR from the packers for even close to this money.clones2 wrote:Sorry - this is not a troll post. Im a Vikings fan. Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

It is kind of a silly point, even if it were true.clones2 wrote:Jordy and Cobb at this point were #1 and #2 stat wise and talent wise at this point in his career.
Every team underpays at some positions (i.e., gets lucky on kids who play great and don't demand much money) and overpays at other positions. This year, the Vikes needed to overpay on a quality receiver. Big scoop.
The only worse than "overpaying" for Jennings would have been NOT overpaying for Jennings. During the era of free agency, you target a position or two of need each year and you overpay for those guys. That's OK. The hope is, you draft well enough that you don't have that many positions of need -- and you underpay for a ton of quality players.

well put. that seems to be the formula. striking in rich in the draft gives a few years of rookie salaries where you can over pay for impact pieces in FA. seattle is a perfect example with Wilson at QB. he's not even making $1 million per.DanAS wrote: It is kind of a silly point, even if it were true.

Let's hope Jennings is really good at adjusting to catch badly thrown balls.
