Now that we got JENNINGS........NEXT STEP???

Post by Purple Rage »

I'm usually optimistic with the Vikes but I really like the signing of GJ. Always have been a fan, I think it killed him to miss most of the 2012-2013 season with injury. With a fresh start I think he will do everything he can to stay on the field an play to his potential. With that being said, where do we go from here (wr wise)? Here's what I would like to happen, please share your thoughts.

1. Sign Danario Alexander , I think we can get him on the cheap and the man has shown if given the chance he can be a effective an playmaking wr. 6'5 good hands, pretty good route runner. can go up an get it!

2. Draft Keenan Allen 1st rd and Robert Woods 2nd rd. I love Tavon Austin's play making ability an it's almost a given we pick him to fill in for Percy. I just think Wright will come into his own and Bo.th Jennings and Wright can play the slot. Keenan is just a beast, if it wasn't for injury an qb issues at Cal I think he could be a top 15 pick. Woods didn't have an amazing 2012-2013 season but still showed he is a nfl wr. Has a high ceiling and can be dangerous with his speed. I think we have to move up to get woods in the 2nd rd but we have the picks to do it.

In My perfect world our WR core will look like this JENNINGS/ALLEN/WOODS/ALEXANDER/WRIGHT/SIMPSON

we might draft another Wide out but i doubt we sign any more free agents at WR

We need a DT MLB and proably CB in the first three rounds more than a wide out

Echoing the thoughts, I think that could be be us done in FA.

I envision us now using our first draft pick to select a versatile receiver to compliment Jennings (Austin, Allen) and the next step will be to acquire the services of a promising young linebacker (preferably Teo, though Arthur Brown looks rangy).

well, here is how I would catergorize our needs (won't even mention QB because at this point we all know Spielman and Frazier are going with Ponder):

DIRE
MLB
CB

Strong Need
WR
DT

Really need an upgrade and depth
OG

Does anyone know if the Vikings have any $$ left after the Jennings signing? I would love for them to bring in a decent CB for 2 years, so they can use their 1st 2 picks on MLB and WR. Then draft CB, DT, OG BPA in rounds 2-4.

I don't think they have much cap room left but they might be able to free some up if there's someone they want to sign. I'd say MLB is clearly the most dire need now, with CB and WR still significant needs and DT not far behind.

I would move WR in the "dire" need category, though I think they should address it in the draft and not in the free agency anymore.

If there is a free agent CB and/or MLB available and the Vikings have the money, either one would be worth the investment.

Next step? Zygi needs to take the credit card away from Spielman.

Past time to focus on the draft!

Hunter as in Justin Hunter from Tennessee? If so, then I say yes!

Yeah the more I watch of this guy the more I like. Sometimes he looks more like 6'6''. He and Kyle would be such huge targets for Ponder. I just dont see us getting Patterson or Allen know. But im usually wrong.

Urlacher! Here me out. I live in Chicago and have watched his impact on the bear for years while bears fans have complained about him getting too old and slow. Urlacher is older, he does not move laterally as well but he has intangibles that you can not measure with a stop watch. Last year and a couple of years ago when he broke his wrist, the bears collapsed. When he is on the field his team wins and they are better. He has attitude, and this attitude blended in with Allen and Smith would be very contagious and immediately make us a harder hitting team. Urlacher is also one of the top Tampa 2 Middle Linebackers. His drops to deep middle are excellent. He is the reason the bears were successful with the Tampa. Without him they could not run it. He would be a really nice short term fix if they can get him for under 4 million.

I watch a lot of SEC ball and my secret wish last season was that the Vikings would take Tennessee WRs Cordarrelle Patterson and Justin Hunter in the draft. Now that Patterson's stock has skyrocketed, I guess the Vikings don't have a chance for him. But they can still take Hunter, which I think would be big for this team. I'd love to see Hunter out there with Jennings and Wright.

If I am Ponder, I am calling Jennings and picking his mind about Favre and Rodgers regarding their understanding of reading the d-fense as well as ball placement and throwing lanes. Gleaning whatever I can from Jenning's experience.

He's definitely an intriguing player and he looks great on highlight videos but I keep reading about his drops and inconsistent play, which concern me. What's your take on that, Craig?
