So surprised that the Vikings overpaid for a 30 year old injury prone receiver past his prime!!!
7 seasons - FOUR shortened by injury. BOTH of the past 2 years with sprained knees and pulled groins!!!

This is good news. I can't wait to see what happens with him on the field.

This is great news. He is definitely going to be our 1# WR and should give us a few years of decent play. If our rookie WR's that we draft turn out to be great players we could be a force to be reckoned with.

Hopefully its essentially a 2-3 year deal, with no guaranteed money past then.

So 9+ million per year.According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the new contract Jennings agreed to with the Vikings tonight is a five-year deal worth $47.5 million, with $18 million guaranteed. That also includes a minimum value of $27 million over the first three years.

Oh well, he is worth it. It is less than what Harvin wanted and not only do we get a true receiver, we get a team player out of the deal.Demi wrote: So 9+ million per year.

Essentially, we traded PErcy for Greg Jennings and three draft picks, one of them being a 1st rounder. And if I am not mistaken, he is cheaper than Percy (correct me if I am wrong).
Not a bad deal.

Not sure I get the hate about this signing.
It makes way more sense to find the WRs we want long term in the draft. However, it makes no sense to enter the season with Jerome Simpson as your "Veteran leader".
Why on earth would Spielman give up a max contract and a#1 for Victor cruz..., or an overmax stupid contract ala Mike Wallace, before taking a shot at drafting his own?
Seemed to me the goal was to get a solid pro in here to set a tone for the whole corps (corpse) at a fair price. That fact that it turned out to be someone with #1 assets and a non-diva persona is awesome.
The only real concern for me is his health and if it doesn't pose a problem he's worth every penny. The guys we draft will be getting peanuts for 4-5 years.
I think it's a perfect fit and a great pick-up.
Now sign a competent DB!

Plus we took Jennings from a division rival! And Jennings is a more polished/experienced WR than Harvin and a team guy.PurpleMustReign wrote:Essentially, we traded PErcy for Greg Jennings and three draft picks, one of them being a 1st rounder. Excellent post. Plus, as you said, the Vikings took him from a rival and he's a polished, experienced receiver. One of the things I really like about Jennings is that he's a high character player as well as a skilled player. I think he'll bring leadership to the offense and the WR corps and since that corps is going to be young, that leadership could be extremely valuable. The Breeze wrote:Not sure I get the hate about this signing.

For those who are unhappy with the signing, I'd simply say that beggars can't be choosers. Sometimes there is no ideal solution to a problem and I think that's the situation the Vikes were facing. They desperately needed a good veteran WR and they got arguably the best choice available. He was certainly one of the best choices available and at 29, he's not exactly over the hill.
Jennings makes the team better. He should help make Ponder better too. He'll certainly be the most polished, accomplished receiver Ponder has had a chance to throw to...

I can see him being like Winfield for the offense.Mothman wrote:

Re: Adam Shefter says Greg Jennings is a Viking!
Waste of money. Jennings is a crisp fluid route-runner that needs timely, accurate passes. He's not a physical match-up that can fight and overcome defenders and snatch poorly thrown balls. The latter is what Ponder needed; the former will be completely wasted on Ponder.
Jennings will never break 1,000 yards again, and he'll be cut in 2-3 years.

Re: Adam Shefter says Greg Jennings is a Viking!
I am a little torn on this one. In general, I think signing a 30 year old with an injury history to big $$ is a bad idea, the WR was so dire I'm not sure they had much of a choice. I'll be optimistic and hope it works out. At least we should know conclusively about Ponder this year. No excuses. He has a HOF running back that commands consistent 8 man front, the reigning Pro Bowl MVP at TE (
) an above average offensive line, and now a bonafide WR. Its his 3rd year in the league. NO EXCUSES THIS YEAR FOR PONDER!!!
OK, now let's list the needs in order of most dire to least dire (let's leave QB out for now
).....I have:
1. MLB
2. CB
3. WR
4. DT
5. OG
Thoughts???
