Vikings last 5 years of WR pickups

Post by clones2 »

WR PICKUPS the PAST 5 years....

Aromashodu, Simpson, Michael Jenkins, Reynaud, Stephen Burton, Aundrae Allison, Troy Williamson, Chandler Williams, Jaymar Johnson, Randy Moss, Greg Childs, Sidney Rice and one percy harvin. (Jarius Wright - the jury is still out)

2 out of 12!!!!!! Great job guys!!!! We have total faith in "building through the draft!!!!!" What a joke. Don't even get me started on the selection of QB's!!!!

That's a 2 out of 12 counting sidney rice as one of the 2. I can see how you would be confused with only one of his 6 years with 800 yards receiving.

And when we overpaid to get the best wide receiver on the market? Bernard Berrian doesn't have enough fingers for all the rings he helped the Vikes win!

I'm saying this for your own health, but if this is really how you feel, you might want to cheer for a different team. Seriously, I don't want you to have an Aneurysm, you'll just be frustrated none stop! It's for your own good!

we currently have NO good receivers....it won't lead to many victories, and it gives Ponder a lot of excuses for avoiding responsibility....I feel like we are having a fire sale.....we are gonna rot in the NFC basement for a few years more....aaargh.

I think the failure speaks more to player evaluation and development than it does to the approach itself. If this is going to work for Spielman then the Vikings have to prove they can find the talent in the draft and then develop it.

I think Spielman did a good job of that last year and hopefully he can repeat it this year. He snagged 3 legit difference-makers in their rookie seasons (Kalil, Harrison, and Walsh), and at least one more who looks like he could develop into a legit difference-maker in Wright. High picks in each round notwithstanding, that's pretty good. He'll need to at least repeat that performance in this year's draft as well, and it will be proportionately more difficult to pull off with lower picks in each round.

Let's see how he does before getting too worked up about the past failures of what I consider was a much more scattershot approach to drafting.

WOW I would say more like .75 out of 12 seeing both Rice and harvin had crap for attitudes, were injury or fake injury prone and took off without fufilling their contracts and are pot heads

Valid point!

This is exactly what worries me. As much as I buy into the Vikes ethos of 'Retaining our own players and building through the draft', it's imperative to ensure that every pick counts, even a couple of failures leads to dwindling depth.

Don't get me wrong, the Draft is a fantastically pure way to accumulate talent but take the Seahawks for example. They weren't far of a championship last season but have been involved in a Free Agency frenzy in order to take them to the next level. Seattle has even been known to persuade CFL players to join their ranks and become stars out of nowhere.

Thinking outside the box is key, with two first round picks, why not use this ammunition in a deal to acquire a proven talent at the weak WR position?
