I have a hard time seeing this when we have no playmakers on offense outside of AD.

I think a lot can happen in two years as far as finding an outside threat. But as for building a championship D? We need picks now. It could be argued that the Ravens and Niners last pieces were WRs, many of which came through trade/FA after everything else was in place.

As for playmakers on offense, Wright is already showing that he is a playmaker....not to the tune of Harvin, but who is? Rudolph is a playmaker IMO. Ultimately I'd rather have them build the lines and a terrorizing defense as a foundation. Plus we still don't know if Ponder is going to cut it.
Losing Harvin really sucks....but we don't know what we get in return yet.

So, I guess my point was that even with Harvin they had too many holes to be serious contenders next season, and he wasn't the guy who brings us a superbowl anyway. I just don't think WRs do that. Of course they are important, but Harvin was just a piece of the puzzle and ultimately a replaceable one as far as productivity goes.

So, I'm rooting for Jarius Wright and whoever they sign and trusting that this FO is committed to long term stability.

It seems as if Spielman may have pulled off a great trade under the circumstances involved. I would have loved to have kept Harvin but not at the cost he probably got and deserved from Seatle.
This being said, it would outwardly appear as though Spielman worked some "magic" by putting out the fact that the Vikes had no interest in trading Harvin, which was wise from a bargaining stand point. Had he said that the Vikings are willing to trade Harvin then the offers would have possibly been for a lot less compensation. Again, none of use lay persons have any idea what was transpiring or what had transpired in this deal but it seems as though the Vikings faired quite well with this trade, so kudos to the GM. I would also imagine that Spielman has a lot more plans that he is keeping close to the vest with.

As PurplePride said earlier, this trade will never compare to the Moss trade. I cried after the Moss trade. We got more than I expected for Harvin, we didn't get even close to enough for Randy. To this day, I have never forgiven, nor will I ever forgive, Minnesota for trading Randy Moss.


On a side note, I heard Randy Moss is a free agent...

Frankly, the depth of those circumstances will determine whether the Vikings made the right decision Monday. Make no mistake: They shipped out one of the NFL's most dynamic playmakers a few months shy of his 25th birthday, leaving themselves as short on offensive firepower as any team in the league. They received a nice kitty in return but certainly not one that guarantees a replacement of his skills.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, that has been reported about Harvin's eccentric off-field behavior -- his dust-ups with both Vikings head coaches he has played for and his decision to rehabilitate his sprained ankle elsewhere last season, among others -- merits this move.

Another positive is the Vikings still have 24 hours to make a move in FA on any WR they want. At this point the cupboard is bare, but they are in a position to make moves if they want it. They also have two 1st round picks in a very deep and broad draft.

One other potential move would be for them to trade one of the 1sts for additional picks, which could be a long term boon in a draft as deep as this one. Draft day should be intereting. Rumplespielman indeed.

It sucks losing a guy like PH, but I'm pretty convinced that this happened because it was inevitable in Harvin's mind. I think the FO made the most of an otherwise crap situaion.

I would rather have cruz and let them sign nicks. They have already been in contract negotiations with both wr's and nicks seems to be the only WR that is taking their bait. Cruz on the other hand wants to test the market.

Bring on Cruz. At this point I may be more upset if we sign Wallace than trading Harvin. I'd rather have kept Harvin, but if he doesn't want to play for the Vikings, why waste the time and effort. I don't want to sign Wallace. We've had enough WR's here that can't catch the ball consistently.

Im glad we traded him. We essentially got the same value back from when we drafted him with the 22nd pick, I mean we get the what 27th ? and 3- 5 th and a 7th ?
