Mothman, I am not trying to make this personal because quite honestly 99% of the time I enjoy what you bring to this site. My offering was simply an attempt to engage in a dialog that while hypothetical.....could IMO be a resolution for both teams. Since this is the off season and at this point we dont know what direction Spielman will go to fill the teams needs I guess I was thinking outside the box and was looking for people like you to bring substance to the discussion since that is normally what you do. There may be minimal evidence supporting Harvin becoming a problem but it has been reported all the same and if it is true, what are the options?Mothman wrote: Please, don't be so sensitive and there's certainly no reason to start slinging insults. The emoticon wasn't meant as anything personal. It was simply an expression of frustration. I don't care who brings up a subject or who comments on it. I'm just tired of the endless stream of "Harvin is a problem" thinking since it's based on minimal evidence and I've never understood the enthusiasm sports fans have for hypothetical trade talks. The odds that Cruz will be available to the Vikings at all are pretty slim and the odds of the Giants trading him for Harvin are even slimmer.
Go after Victor Cruz?

Thanks. I'll assume your comment was a result of frustration, just as my use of the head-bangin' emoticon was an expression of frustration.radar55 wrote:Mothman, I am not trying to make this personal because quite honestly 99% of the time I enjoy what you bring to this site.
Well, I've tried to do that in this thread as well.My offering was simply an attempt to engage in a dialog that while hypothetical.....could IMO be a resolution for both teams. Trading him may be an option IF the rumors add up to anything but I don't think trading him straight up for Cruz is a realistic option because Cruz will be a restricted free agent in a few months and Harvin has just one year left on his contract. Those circumstances just don't lend themselves to a big trade. If they decided to trade Harvin this offseason, I suspect they'd look to improve their options in the draft. There may be minimal evidence supporting Harvin becoming a problem but it has been reported all the same and if it is true, what are the options?
As for Simpson being the other starting outside WR... I don't know if you've seen my comments about that elsewhere but I think it's a bad idea unless Simpson beats out some real competition and earns the right to start. He just can't be counted on...

It would be intersting to see what he can do if he is healthy. He was a good WR in Cincinnati, definitely could spread the field.Mothman wrote:I don't know if you've seen my comments about that elsewhere but I think it's a bad idea unless Simpson beats out some real competition and earns the right to start. Something you have to do for a successful first rounder anyway. The odds are slim for this one, but I would go for it as it would free us up to draft for all other aspects of the team.80 PurplePride 84 wrote:I don't see them giving up picks for anyone.
You also have to remember not only are you giving up a 1st round pick but you're also paying a huge contract.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

I agree that it would be interesting. I just want him to beat out some serious talent and competition to earn his spot on the field and produce to keep it.
Re: Go after Victor Cruz?
He had an actual NFL quarterback and a top flight receiver across from him in Cincinatti too. You can't spread the field with Bummy McBumBum out there throwing two yards past the line of scrimmage more often then not and Musgraves silly little shrink the field offense.PurpleMustReign wrote: It would be intersting to see what he can do if he is healthy. If they keep Harvin, Simpson, Wright, and maybe Jenkins, I would be ok with that, assuming they draft a playmaking WR (or one who is supposed to be). They don't need a Roddy White or Julio Jones. They just need someone who can get separation and make some kind of play downfield. Although, I would love to have Randy Moss backMothman wrote:

I really want Cruz and PH on this team. But it wont matter if we dont have a line that gives Ponder at least a couple seconds.

Re: Greg Childs
My predictions have been amazingly bad for a couple years now - thought the Vikes weren't going to win another game after going 6-5. I thought the same of the Bears a couple years ago, and they went to the NFC Championship game. So take this with whatever grain of salt you need to...
I would be shocked to see that Greg Childs ever puts on a football uniform again. The complete lack of meaningful stressful exercise in his legs for however long the initial recovery took (my guess, about 8-10 weeks) would have completely sapped his muscle mass there. The ACL can just "go along for the ride" in many exercises (riding an exercise bike for example), and it can be braced to prevent outside stress, so you can more-or-less start working immediately after surgery. Not so with patellar tendons AFAIK.
I would imagine that, if he works hard and the team supports him, he might be nearly the same receiver about three years down the line. And I would still fear that he would pop those things again. And if he fears that, he won't be nearly as good a receiver as he was.
I would love to be proven wrong.
