End of Season Thoughts

Post by Dark »

What a great season. I never thought we would even have a record above .500, but we made it to the PLAYOFFS. Especially coming off of an 3-13 season. We also had the 8th hardest schedule, and went 10-6 against all odds. We kept the Bears out of the playoffs, and stopped the packers from getting a first round bye. From this season, we know where our weak spots are, and can make some big adjustments in the offseason. We are definitely headed in the right direction, and I believe we can even make it farther in to the playoffs next season, and I think AD will break the record after falling so close this season. What are your thoughts about this season, this offseason, and next season?

I'll probably have something specific to say tomorrow. For now, I think it was an unexpectedly enjoyable season. AD gave us all a fantastic effort to enjoy and the team improved by leaps and bounds over their 3-13 season last year. I think there are many, many reasons to be encouraged about the future and I'm looking forward to the draft and next season.

As you said, they should know where their weak spots are so hopefully, they will do a good job of addressing them. maybe next season they'll be able to take the next step and not only reach the postseason but advance in it.

Certainly exceeded my expectations. And they beat quality teams too, Niners, Texans, Packers, Bears, etc.

We also need to keep in mind this is the 5th youngest team in the NFL, which adds to the accomplishment. Definitely some areas need to be improved (competition for Ponder, improved road playing, LB, CB, WR etc. etc.) and losing to the Packers is as sour as it comes but the overall season was a pleasant surprise.

Lots of positives to end the season...

Harrison Smith is a real stud.
Kalil is the real deal.
Everson Griffen is a force to be reckoned with
Walsh is a mini-stud
Peterson is back, and stronger than ever
Ponder showed signs of being a real QB here and there
The Defense as a whole showed a ton of improvement
Our Special Teams took a giant leap forward.
We beat some pretty good teams and made the playoffs

It was an enjoyable season. A lot of ups and downs, but we ended on a positive note (minus this playoff game) and I have high hopes for the offseason, ponder improving, Vikings hopefully have another great draft and we get some quality players to fix our problems on offense and defense.

Next season, I think we can make a case to be the top team in the division and have a decent shot at winning the division.

I agree on the 8-8 record prediction thats what I thought we would be at the end . I think AD having such a monster year was what did this and I want to congratulate Adrian for being the warrior he was in 2012. I admit I am not as sold on Frasier as most on this board but they played hard till the end and ill give credit where its due . I am still proud of the team and the year we had I can wear my Vikings gear with pride again .

The best news is that we have relatively few holes. The worst news is that one of those holes is the one that is most difficult to fix (QB). But other teams do it, so maybe we can.

Maybe we will find a gem in the draft like the seahawks did!

No team in the NFL should commit to one quarterback. Joe Webb should have been put in earlier in the year. I fear because Ponder went out on a high note last Sunday and nobody saw what he would do tonight, that he gets a free pass to be the starter again. We should trade for a QB or draft pick to get one. It takes more than just a hall of fame running back to win games.

And, one of our wins (not sure which atm) knocked the NO Cheaters out of playoff contention. The fudgies might have given the rest of the league a blueprint on how to contain AD, so I don't know how optimistic I feel about him having a record-breaking year. I agree though, we improve the WR lineup through the draft and get at least one FA, we'll definitely continue our ascent!

Also, our rookies turned out to be complete stars. Kalil, Smith, and Wal$h all had a huge impact on our season. If we can have another draft like that this coming year, we could be in Super Bowl contention!

Yes we did Christian...yes we did.

Tonight proved once and for all that Webb is not an NFL QB and never will be. Ponder's had some bad games...no doubt. But he's our quarterback, he's on the way up, and deserves at least another year to keep it rolling. MBT should have been starting the second half after the crap fest we were treated to in the first. Webb's a one-trick pony, and the Fudgepackers had him pegged from the start. Also, his throwing mechanics to me appeared Tebowesque. His TD pass was in garbage time, so I can't really give him any credit for that. Not saying Ponder would have won this for us; but it wouldn't have been a blowout like this was either!

This, to me, is a perfect assessment. It should have been clear after the first half that Webb simply had no chance to get us rolling offensively. He is an athlete, not a quarterback. That doesn't fly in the NFL, much less the NFL playoffs. It's easy for NFL defenses to stop guys like him. It didn't help that Musgrave, for God knows why, stubbornly tried to make Webb a pocket passer. He could have been more clever with his play calling. That could have been the difference... You never know.

After bashing him for an entire season, it's almost surreal that I'm suddenly thinking of Ponder in this light, as though he's the savior and the missing key to tonight's game. But I think back to last Sunday's clinching game and some of the throws he made... He was throwing it down the field. And with some success. Green Bay wasn't that great tonight. They were beatable tonight. Who knows, maybe Ponder does swing the game.
