Adrian wants to return kicks

I think that would be AWESOME. He may have to learn how to field the kickoffs, but I believe he has the strength, agility and toughness to be able to return kickoffs. Him and Harvin returning kicks would be great.

He also wants to block kicks

Re: Adrian wants to return kicks
He has 17 career kickoff returns (16 in '07), so it's not like it's new territory. I'd make sure he takes a few in practice though.Dark wrote:I think that would be AWESOME. I'd go absolutely berserk if he ever blocked a field goal. Heck, just seeing him out there trying would be awesome.

He had a few his rookie year when some of us were arguing to get him off kick returns because of wear/injury. Became a bit of a heated topic! (wow 5 years ago already!)Dark wrote:I think that would be AWESOME. Last game I thought about it on that final kickoff if he'd be pushing to do it.
Reynaud just won special teams player of the week for his two punt return touchdowns. Could use him back as well! But as far as Peterson returning them, I was against it then, and I don't know how much it'd cut into his running but in a big game like this or a big point in the game would it be too much for him? Would he be able to make that big of a difference? How well could he do it having not done it for all these years?
Probably better off not finding out!!!

Tramon Williams didn't want to tackle him coming out of the backfield, can you imagine some of these guys with Peterson coming at them full speed. I can see it only on the off chance that the Vikings are behind in the 4th and need a spark and some yardage.

Oh hell no. One shot he could be done. Risk/Reward not worth it. The Vike's kick returns have been pretty good even without Harvin.

SUPER AGREE ! Way to Valuable for returns. Maybe in the superbowl in the 2nd half if we are behind. Other than that no way. Same thing for harvinPurple bruise wrote:Oh hell no. One shot he could be done. Risk/Reward not worth it. The Vike's kick returns have been pretty good even without Harvin.

I think that's the problem. You tackle a guy like Peterson coming at you full speed low.Raptorman wrote: Tramon Williams didn't want to tackle him coming out of the backfield, can you imagine some of these guys with Peterson coming at them full speed. Not worth it. The guys that run down on the kick off team in the nfl are nuts to start with. One crazy dude, with a full head of steam, and a shoulder into his knee and he is done. Not a bad way for someone who will see limited action to make an impact for their team and influence the outcome of the game. Dont give them that chance.
I thought last week that Scherrels (?) was excellent anyways.

Re: Adrian wants to return kicks
Situational only. Just putting him back there is going to scare the bee jesus out of any special teams unit. Put Scherrels at the 10 and let the opposing team decide. Especially if the kicker can't get a touch back.
Re: Adrian wants to return kicks
Is there evidence that kickoff returners are at higher risk for injury? It's possible, I suppose, but I don't recall seeing a lot of kick returners going down that often, nor seeing stats that reflect that hypothesis. At least, I don't think it's noticeably riskier than his normal offensive duties. YMMV.
That said, I'm all for him returning kicks for Percy, but only in special/critical situations.

Why not? The way he runs as a RB, this isnt that much more dangerous, and its a must win game.

I agree, plus like DP said, I would like to know if there is any real evidence that KO returners get hurt more. does anyone have any?PurpleKoolaid wrote:Why not? The way he runs as a RB, this isnt that much more dangerous, and its a must win game.
