Re: Peterson: MVP?
Im pretty confident the award is his. Time to break the QB streak and give to the hall of fame back.

MVP and HoF bound.
Manning is playing up to the standards of every other great QB this season. Adrian has set the bar for what a great RB is and nobody else has matched it.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
I think He did it today. No one has "carried their team" like AD this year. Point blank.
PS of course I think JIm Marshall should be in the Hall of Fame, but what do I know.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
I am sick of the QB's getting it year in and year out. AP was hands down the best player in the league, so he truly should win it. It will be a huge travesty if he is denied.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
Especially in the later half of the season, AP constantly when up against teams who were practicing and playing to stop him and he STILL put up ridiculous numbers.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
I would be surprised if AD didn't get it. The Donkeys were a playoff team last year, and the Vikes were 3-13. AD took a 3-13 team ane led them to the playoffs with one of the best years that a running back ever had. I say AD wins the MVP awardl.Orion wrote:2,097 yards and Vikings make the playoffs. Chances look good for MVP? I think he gets it, but wouldn't be surprised if it goes to Peyton Maning.
Re: Peterson: MVP?
I agree completely. If Manning wins they should just make a separate award for everyone else already. At some point these voters have to start comparing these players to what their peers have done in recent years and ask themselves who is doing something special, and this year that's hands down AD. In recent years 30 QB's have put up similar numbers to what Manning has this year, in other words, he really hasn't done anything special.J. Peyton Manning had a good year for a playoff team. Adrian Peterson had a super-human year following ACL surgery one year ago today for a 3-13 team and put them on his back to the playoffs.
Deion Sanders said it best ... if they give it to Manning, they might as well rename the award the MVQB.
Personally I think AD clinched the MVP today on that final run. It won us the game, clinched us a playoff spot, and summed up his season in 1 play.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
AD sealed the deal with that final run. Had he made it to the end zone, it would have been a thundering slam dunk. As it is, there is no question who the most valuable player is in the NFL. And this season may have punched his ticket to Canton as well.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
That final run epitomized what happened all year, with the nation watching. He demonstrated his value, to a playoff team. I 100% guarantee, Adrian sealed the MVP. I believe he had a shot, had they lost today, but with the win, it's his, no doubt in my mind. Many of us here, have been football fans, for a long time, and we know what an MVP season looks like.BGM wrote:AD sealed the deal with that final run. Re: Peterson: MVP?
I think Peterson has to. It is such a pass league now that Manning's numbers of 4600 yards, 37 touchdowns are pretty elite but still...
Pedestrian?
If Drew Brees was passed over after posting back to back 5000+ yard seasons with 40+ touchdowns why should
4600 yards, 37 touchdowns be MVP worthy?
That same year saw Drew Brees set the single season record for passing yards, attempted nearly 700 passes for 468 completions for a completion-in-one-season record, had THIRTEEN 300 yard games, 13! Not the MVP.
I bet in the past 10 years or so, the top tier quarterbacks in the league are about 4500 yards, 25-35 touchdowns. Comparable to superior numbers happen every season. Hell, the "reigning MVP" Aaron Rodgers didn't even lead statistically last season (Brees did by quite a bit, on an inferior team) nor does Peyton Manning statistically lead this year. He's equivalent to Rodgers, behind Tom Brady and 6 touchdowns and almost 600 yards behind Brees. Just because a team isn't going to the playoffs doesn't mean the best player on the team is invalidated. Look at that roster of 2s at best for the Saints receiving corps and see how Brees just keeps spinning straw into 5000 yard/40 touchdown gold. I'd give him his first MVP before Peyton Manning gets his 5th.
It isn't even the Most Valuable Quarterback award now. Last year the Broncos made the playoffs with Tim Tebow. Imagine the Saints without Brees. Jesus.
It is just an Associated Press Quarterback Popularity Contest. Maybe Peterson needs to do "funny" (channel-changingly bad) commercials?
Running backs have only had 2000 yard seasons 7 times. Adrian Peterson is second EVER in yards in a regular season. EVER.
He's clearly the best running back in the league. You can argue that Peyton Manning might not even be the best quarterback in the AFC (Tom Brady).

Re: Peterson: MVP?
Here is a little something to chew on...
In 2009, Chris Johnson joined the 2000 yard rushing club, had 14 rushing touchdowns, had another 500+ yards receiving and two touchdown catches, broke the single season yards from scrimmage record...
Didn't even get a vote.
Out of 50 people, not one person was like "Wow. I've got to vote for that."
Calvin Johnson, superb player on a bad and dysfunctional team. Didn't break records, set them. Set the bar ridiculously high.
I bet he doesn't get a vote.
There hasn't been a defensive player named MVP in over 25 years (1986 Lawrence Taylor).
It has only gone to a running back 7 times in 30 years (once as co-MVP with Favre). The last 5 winners have been quarterbacks.
Of the winners over the past 30 years, 23 of the 31 awardees were quarterbacks.
Quarterback is the only position to have more than 1 multiple MVP player.
4 Quarterbacks have more collective MVPs than the last 50 years' worth of collective running backs in the league.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
I feel a "Co-MVP" coming on.
Re: Peterson: MVP?
Peterson for sure should get it, but I would not be surprised one bit if Manning gets it instead.
Even comeback player of the year still goes to Peterson imo. Manning sat out a full year to rehab, and he was rehabbing from elected surgeries (there was no single hit that took Manning out, it was built up injuries and family health history related). AP had a terrible injury at the very end of last season, had one stinkin offseason to heal up, and came back and put up the 2nd best single season rushing total ever. Not to mention we're talking about a running back carrying a team's offense in this day and age, which just doesn't happen.
AP all the way.

Since Rodgers is out of the MVP talks I seriously hope that AD gets the NFL MVP. IMO don't give AD & Payton co MVPs & co come back player of the year. Although its splitting hairs IMO Payton Manning should get the come back player of the year. 4 neck surgeries.

Re: Peterson: MVP?
Eh. QB is not nearly as physically taxing a position as an RB. You don't rush for 2097 yards a year after tearing your ACL and MCL. You just don't.VltrophyXLV wrote:Since Rodgers is out of the MVP talks I seriously hope that AD gets the NFL MVP. IMO don't give AD & Payton co MVPs & co come back player of the year.
