Watching the Texans go right down the field for that first field goal had me worried as it seems one of the defenses biggest problems this year has been getting off the field on third downs. Lo and behold they sure tightened that up, best I remember Houston was 1 for 11 on third down conversions. AWESOME. Now lets see something similar against the pack. Problem is Rodgers is a lot more mobile than Shaub. :
You hit the nail on the head. We devour immobile QBs. The mobile ones, on the other hand, can succeed against our D. Maybe it will be somewhat different with Cook back, though. While I don't endorse his (alleged) extra-curricular activities --and that's an understatement -- he is a major upgrade on the field from the other options at CB.
Sunday's game really figures to be a great one. I wouldn't lay .5 points on either team, personally.

If the ownership is really serious about taking this team to the top they HAVE TO make changes at QB and HC next season... This season is DONE AND DUSTED...
(No - That's not the Vikings I'm talking about - That's a direct quote from the Texans board about their team ) There is also a mention in there about Ponder being a mediocre QB looking like Joe Montana...
My goodness!! I'd have to foe 3/4th of the board over there

You got it right for once. Another of his throw aways was almost an INT.
Wtf is almost threw an INT. You mean with Watt drapped all over him facing a sure sack and big loss he managed to throw the pass away and save the play. If ALMOST meant anything then, which it doesn't, a lot of outcomes would be drastacally different, both good and bad.
Regarding the fumblde, again with zero time to pass and two unblocked rushers hitting him (one being Watt) how many qbs would not have fumbled.

I'm not sure I'm ready to give him love. But I will say this -- when compared to Simpson, Jenkins is like the short stop with lousy range and relatively sure hands, and Simpson is like the guy with great range but who periodically boots easy grounders. Those latter guys are the ones who especially drive you nuts.
There. How's that for a tepid endorsement?
He's not going to hit many homers or steal any bases but he gets on base. Lets put it another way, it's 3rd and 4, Musgrave calls a slant, who do you want out of our current WR corp catching the ball? I'm pretty comfortable with Jenkins making that catch. The Vikings aren't going to purge every WR outside of Harvin and Wright this offseason, it's just not feasible. I think there will and should be a major overhaul but if he restructures again to reduce that roster bonus, I think he might be on the team again next year. He's shown more than Burton, Aromashodu and Carlson, that's for sure.

Jenkins could still find his way back to the roster next year, but if things go as I'd expect with the draft and FA, he'd be a situational reserve ala Greg Lewis from the 2009 season I think. I expect the Vikes to use one of their 1st 3 picks on a WR, bring in another FA, and they'll hopefully get a healthy and motivated Childs back. Right there you've got 3 guys in addition to Wright and Harvin that would all be in position to win significant playing time. If Jenkins does stick, it's going to be as a situational reserve ala Greg Lewis from the 2009 season (and hopefully he'd have the same sort of impact as Lewis did that year).

Last night I spent a half hour or so trying to find any news of Childs' rehab. I couldn't really find much but what I did find was disheartening. From what I could gather the guy will have to really gut it out just to be able to have normal mobility again. It's happened to two other guys in the NFL. A CB for the Browns made it back to the field 2 yrs later but it was more symbolic than anything. He never really played again.
I would love to be wrong about this, and it's purely speculation, but I doubt Childs will ever see the field again in any significant way. It really sucks cause he was one guy who I thought had all the tools and a level head.
If I were in the front office I would have to plan around him not being an option.

You may be right but I have a feeling Child's career is over. Very difficult to come back from that type of injury not to mention he has yet to prove himself, hasn't even played a preseason game yet. I wish him the best but the Vikings putting a lot of hope in he being a significant contributor next year wouldn't be wise.

I'm afraid you're probably right. He certainly seemed to have all the tools, though, from how he looked in the preseason. He would have been a much higher pick than late 4th round if it hadn't been for his patella tendon rupture in college.
It's when you toss the ball into the hands of a defender and he drops it. It's not even like he threw into tight coverage and a defender made a good play. Ponder just plain threw it up for grabs.
You mean with Watt drapped all over him facing a sure sack and big loss he managed to throw the pass away and save the play.
Taking a 5-10 yard loss is the smart thing to do compared to blindly tossing the ball in the general direction of the LOS. If you can throw it away with any kind of authority and certainty that no defender is going to touch it, that's the better play. It was a bad decision.
Exactly, he had two balls he should have taken the sack and tried to throw it out of bounds. One was the awesome Simpson catch, the other almost intercepted...

Cadillac Williams came back from that injury (only one knee though) to play a few more years but he was never really the same.
Ryan Williams for the Cardinals did it this year (again one knee) but he got re-injured. It was either a broken ankle or torn acl, I forget.
Yeah, but did Williams just come down from making a catch to injure his knee? The Vikings are going to have to forget about Childs. He could have helped the team a lot but if the guy is having these kinds of serious injuries without actually being hit I can only imagine what taking contact for him will be like.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with both of you about Childs. Odds are against him coming back from such a severe injury.
Regarding Childs' skills, I watched him play for the Razorbacks. Just my two cents but if Childs had remained healthy, he would be our #1 WR right now. Not that he's better than Percy Harvin, but rather that he has the size, athleticism, and hands to be a legitimate full-time wideout that could be counted on game after game. I admit I'm basing this on his college performance, so who knows if he could have brought the same game to the pro league? But the skills were definitely there.

I was a huge Childs fan in college and was thrilled when the Vikes drafted him. He had as much upside as any wide receiver in this year's draft and to have gotten him in the 4th round was absurd. What a devastating injury and loss for the Vikes. Very slim chance that he comes back but if he did and was able to realize his potential, the sky would be the limit.
