Vikings/Texans Post-game Thoughts

This was a huge win, taking the Vikings from a 3-13 record in 2011 to a winning record in 2012 and keeping them alive for the postseason. Kudos to Leslie Frazier and his staff for a great game plan and for keeping this team focused and playing hard down the stretch. They've guided the Vikings through a very difficult mid-season stretch into a run for the playoffs after many people left them for dead weeks ago.

Game balls to:

Allen Williams for a superb defensive game plan
Harrison Smith, who was outstanding today
Christian Ponder, who kept his cool 99% of the time and made some key plays, including a big run in the second half
... and to the entire defensive line for their role in stuffing the vaunted Texans running game, for leading a great goal line stand and for pressuring Schaub all afternoon.

Fred Evans sack of Schaub to finish off the goal line stand deserves special mention. :)

I though Peterson delivered a tough performance against a good defense complete devoted to stopping him.

Simpson was disappointing in the first half but made a great catch along the sidelines in the second half and I thought the much-maligned Bill Musgrave called a great game. This was a team win and every unit made a significant contribution. Walsh's 56 yard FG was awesome!

I have to give J.J. Watt and the Texans defensive front 7 a lot of credit. On all but a few running plays, they owned the line of scrimmage, often giving Peterson little or no chance to get going. It's a testament to Peterson and Gerhart that they gained as much yardage on the ground as they did. A lot of that was individual effort, although they were a few plays where the Vikes won those blocking battles.

Watt is an unbelievable player. I wish the Vikes had him playing next to Kevin Williams on the inside. The Vikes d-line would be unstoppable.

What a great win! Here's hoping the team beats GB next week, Peterson explodes for 200+ and gets the record and the Vikings find their way into the postseason. :)

Limit the turn overs and this team can compete with anyone.

Texans run D deserves all the credit in the world but look at this...

Arian Foster and Ben Tate, Rushing Attempts and Completed Passes...
17 for 48 yards

To add insult to the injury...

Christian Ponder, Rushing Yards
7 for 48 yards
10 fewer attempts, precisely equal yards.

nice win, especially on the road. Disappointed in the yards AP got, but they were dead set on stopping him.

It was cool to see AD and Watt talking after the game though. I'd rather see either of them win MVP over Manning. He has enough of those awards already... :)

Watt reminds me a lot of Keith Millard, remember Millard also had that great swim move and that relentless drive to get to the quarterback.

Too bad Adrian didn't get his yards. Oh well, he'll just have to have a 200-yard day next week.

Great win!

... and like Watt, he was an inside player.

We did what we had to do, which is step up and finish. Some folks are saying that the Texans gave us this game. Oh well. I will take it. It keeps our playoff hopes alive and it gives us something to build on. We just have to take care of business next week against the Packers and finish strong.

Go, Vikings!!!

Anybody saying the Vikings were "given" anything is full of crap. They got the touchdown first possession and never relinquished the lead.

4 sacks, 2 turnovers, under 200 yards given up and no touchdowns. You tell me how much they gave because they gave a HELL of a lot if that is the case.

The way the D-line is playing, very reminiscent of the Giants line when they won the Superbowl.

Fixed it for you. ;-)

Keep yer head up, son! We won! Do you think AD cares more about his yards, or the win?

The ultimate way to end the regular season. A win to secure a spot in the playoffs when Peterson rushes for 220 yards to shatter all the records. :v):

Blair Walsh (aka The Terminator) anyone?

It was a great win, but IMHO Walsh is the Vikings not-so-secret weapon and could be the difference in a playoff game. The dude is automatic from 50+, and then after he scores on the other team he kicks them and rubs their faces in the dirt by putting it out of the end zone.

Other guy I thought played really well for the Vikes today was Everson Griffen (aka The Total Package). I didn't even notice Robison was out. Griffen put consistent pressure on Schaub from his rush position and made plays in the run game. He was huge today.

Ponder played good enough to win. But if we sneak into the playoffs ponder wont get us anywhere. I do like the Ponder Kyle combo, I wish they used it more.

Any road game is tough. The Texans are a great team with a great D. They spent all week on stopping AD. Our Oline couldnt come close to breaking some holes for him. I haven never seen our oline get pushed back like that, and AD lose yards this year.

Our D played well. They frustrated the Texans. They couldnt even beat us with Andre and Foster.

A few road games we win on the road. Maybe Fraizer is preparing this team after all. We are still in it, im very excited.
