I think he will get 2k, but 2106, he would probably need to break off a pair of 200 yard games, or close, like 190s. He has that in him, the way he's been going, but it's not easy. And remember, Houston is good, they will be out of that game early, throwing tons of 5 yard passes.

I have to agree with this.

To quote myself from the other poll:

I wouldn't be surprised if he broke the record. IMO he's one of the best players of all time, and has the heart and determination to do it. I've learned to never doubt Adrian again after the way he's come back after that injury. My heart says yes, but my head says no.

Wait what?? who would have thought this was even gunna be a topic 6 months ago. Almost a year ago we didnt even know if he would play another down. Best running back/athlete in football. who tears their acl and mcl and then nonchalantly leads the league in rushing with 1600 yards and counting? I really hope he breaks the record so theres no question who the best running back ever is.

In a perfect world Peterson breaks the record, the Vikings make the playoffs and Peterson has a high chance of getting MVP, and comeback player of the year. However in Vikings world Ponder has a 150 yard game and meets the Vikings 300 ypg quota ruining ADs chance of breaking Dicks record.

If AP has a big game Sunday, this will be a very interesting thread.

Just saw some stats on nfl network comparing AD and Dickerson though 13 games. Dickerson had 1643 yards and 293 carries to AD's 1600 and 265. Dickerson was averaging 5.6 ypc to AD's 6. If AD gets the carries I say he gets the record.

I agree 100%. The problem is that earlier in the season, Frazier wanted to keep giving Ponder the ball, when you've got the best damn running back in the league on your team! Judging from how many times AD got the ball last week, I would say Frazier is starting to learn that you win by running the best RB in the league, and not by passing with one of the worst QB's in the league. If he sticks with that mindset for the rest of the year, I could see AD being close to the record (or maybe even having it).

And Dickersons final 3 games that year

33-149
27-215
26-98

I believe Frazier and co are on board with trying to get AD to 2000, but I think 2106 is out of reach. Maybe if we had a passing game that could stretch the field a bit more or that could at least keep the defense honest, I'd say he'd have a shot, but we don't. If he stays healthy, watch for him to break the record next year.

Thanks for finding Dickerson's stats from his last three games. Just like Dickerson, AD needs a 200 yard game to have a realistic shot at the record.

Tom Powers: Adrian Peterson makes Vikings' run-only offense go
The Rams know he's coming. The question is: Can they do anything about it? This is very retro, reminiscent of the days of Jim Brown, the greatest running back of all time. Brown pretty much was the Cleveland Browns' offense. He led the league in rushing in eight of his nine NFL seasons.

Everyone knew he was going to get the ball all the time. No one could stop him. That's about where the Vikings are with Peterson. After all the ups and downs, the surprises and disappointments, the Vikings have climbed on Peterson's back and from there are hoping for the best.

"I'm planning on being in the playoffs," Peterson said.

AD now needs 294 yards or 147 yards per game to beat the record.

Thoughts now?

I feel like all he needs to do is get around 140=150 in the houston game because if he is even CLOSE against the packer you have to think that hell get the ball close to 40 times to get it

Tough to count the man out. If he can put up anywhere near 147 on the Texans, he deserves it.
